Namaste, as they say in Nepal. I am traveling to Nepal as a volunteer for the Habitat for Humanity (HFH) House Build in Pokhara. This is the 2015 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. Funds raised will be donated to HFH to help build houses for 100 Nepalese families who currently live in squalor. I will be one of 2,000 volunteers from all around the world who will join the Carters from 1 November to 6 November 2015.
According to the Nepali government, about 9.5 million people or 41 percent of the population live in inadequate housing. Such structures are typically supported by bamboo or old timber pillars, with mud walls and thatched roof. Water is often unsanitary and few dwellings have toilets or electricity.
These dilapidated houses are also a fire risk; nearly 10,000 families lose their homes to fire every year. Thousands of others have their houses destroyed by landslides, floods and other natural disasters each year.
And of course with the recent large earthquake on April 25th there is even more of a need for housing in Nepal.
I appreciate any donation you can give.
Thanks so much and God Bless

I will be travelling to Nepal with Habitat for Humanity to help with 2000 other volunteers to build houses for 100 Nepalese families. My role will include working with a team splitting and weaving bamboo into the walls then plastering these to make them weather proof.

Build has been cancelled 15 October 2015
Hi all, just wanting to say a big thank you to all that have kindly donated to this awesome cause! Unfortunately because of civil unrest in Nepal our build in November has had to be cancelled due to safety reasons. Of course I am devastated about this and just wanting to touch base with all of you about your donations. Because I was fundraising for Habitat Nepal I would still like to donate this money to them but would like to give you a few options since it is your donation!
1. Donate directly to Habitat Nepal
2. Have your money back
3. I will keep it in an account until we know further information as to when we are likely to get to Nepal sometime next year (I'll definitely be going, just don't know when!)
Please let me know your preference - any of the above are absolutely fine!
Thanks again for your support
X Delwyn
