Mandu fell unwell and was admitted to the Animal Emergency Centre and treated for pleural effusion.
Auckland
Mandu is a flat cat that has come into a little bad luck.
He spent some time in the Animal Emergency Centre due to being treated for pleural effusion. He had excess fluids built up in his lungs and thorax and couldn’t breathe.
He was sedated and had a tap placed in his chest and syringed to drain out the puss, this happens every four hours until its clear (or around 5 days).
He had a very tough surgery and struggled to breathe afterward so he was put in an oxygen tent.
He has to remain at the vets to keep flushing out his thorax and lungs and to be monitored. He may still require a second drain placed if he doesn’t respond well.
He has gone through a range of tests and to our delight his outlook is very promising.
The concern to us is a large bill to cover this - we wont even say how much else we may pass out.... Thankfully we have insurance that will cover the majority but we are looking for some small donations to help get Mandu back on the road, and in the flat. The donations raised will cover our part of the vet bill, looking like around $1,500 at this stage.
He's very charismatic, troublesome, loves attacking things but he’s the flat favorite.
I'm a part owner of Mandu and we want to do everything we can to ensure he continues a great life. He's only 5 months old.
