Help us get Cherie the nutritional support she needs to keep healthy and get her and her family flights back home to see everyone.
Nelson / Tasman
On the 13th August 2010 my sister Cherie was diagnosed with stage 3B Lung Cancer on her right lung and lymph nodes [even though she has never smoked -]. She was told that she only had a 10% chance of living for the next 2 years.
4 1/2 years later she is still here and still fighting...
She went through chemo & radio and was given 3 monthly check ups for the next 2 years. It was then after two and a half years the doctors found a new tumour on her left lung. Cherie was faced with the decision of what to do, surgery or do nothing and wait and see how it progresses. She chose surgery, on April the 2nd 2013 the surgeons took out half of her left lung. She also needed follow up Chemo for a couple of months after surgery.
Then in January 2015 they discovered another tumour. It has now progressed to stage 4. The new tumour was tested quickly, along with her previous tumours, and it was found she has a rare type of lung cancer. She has started a clinical trial drug that targets the Alk gene (this drug isn't available in NZ) and is having ongoing monthly appointments. We have our fingers crossed it can keep it from progressing further and even shrink it.
We want to give her the best chance of keeping as healthy as possible and we believe optimal levels of nutritional supplements can also help so we are looking to raise money to support her taking the optimal recommendations for a year or more.
Cherie and her children Toby, Grace and Abby moved to Australia from Nelson in 2009 and we would dearly love to help them come home for a family holiday to see the rest of the family. Time is precious and we would love to have all the family together again.
Every little bit helps and is greatly appreciated. All money raised will go towards helping the Allen family. Thank you.
I am involved because Cherie is my sister and I want to see her keep going so she has more time with her family.
Scan results from 17th April 23 April 2015
Hi everyone,
I'm pleased to let you know that Cherie had very good results from her 8 week scan for the clinical trial. The tumour on her lung has gone from 30mm to 9mm and the tumour on her adrenal gland 15mm to 4mm! This is a great result and credit to the team and Cherie for all that she is doing.
