Our friend Delaney Tabron is facing the huge psychological and financial cost of breast cancer treatment in the US. Please help us make it easier on her.
Delaney Tabron is a lot of things to a lot of people: She is the brains behind iconic publication NO magazine, which she kept going on the smell of an oily rag for its loyal readers. She’s a talented, ridiculously humble actor; an admired art director; and has mentored tens of young creatives. She is also, above all, selfless—one of those consistently generous people who always put other people first. (She only let us run this page when we mentioned it would prompt other young women to check their breasts, too.)
Now, we want to put her first. Because despite the fact she is young and has no family history of the disease, Delaney learned this February that she had an aggressive cancerous tumor in her right breast. During a bilateral mastectomy, that one tumour turned out to be three.
Living in the US means access to effective drugs that NZ doesn’t fund. But it also means astronomical costs. Health insurance only covers so much, and the price of ongoing reconstructive surgeries and treatments (chemotherapy, radiation, physiotherapy...) is frighteningly high. Naturally, this adds an additional layer of anxiety to her situation.
We want to alleviate this added burden so we’re asking people who want to help to chip in. Big or small amounts are welcome. Please also feel free to spread the word around.
Side note: Delaney noticed a lump in her breast when she was lying down. Male or female, please check your breasts and see your doctor if you find anything out of the ordinary. You might be young and healthy, but breast cancer never discriminates.
Delaney Tabron is one of my and my little family's biggest loves and we want to do whatever we can to help her through this journey.
Funds raised will go towards her mounting health bill and ongoing treatment.
Thank you! 30 August 2017
Delaney is completely and utterly blown away by the incredible generosity and outpouring of love and support she has received. Thank you from the bottom of my heart as its boosted her spirits tenfold!
Delaney has just had her 6th round of chemo. I've been alongside her for this round and she is kicking butt and handling all the baloney that comes with chemo with such grace and positivity. Gotta love her - as do all her doctors and nurses!
