Emily is a solo mother of 3 who requires essential pelvic surgery and the childcare costs during her recovery are way out of her budget.
Auckland
On the 1st June my sister Emily will be having necessary surgery that will require a lengthy recovery. She will be bed ridden for the first two weeks and 50-75% in the third week and then a gradual increase in mobility from there. Her eldest will stay with her father for the first two weeks but obviously with the little twins she will need a lot of in home help from nannies who are graciously going to be working for under minimum wage. Yet this still adds up to $1078 per week, plus overnight fees, for the first 3 weeks and then hours will gradually decrease over the following 3 weeks. If she gets the subsidy from WINZ that she has been anxiously waiting to hear back about then this will cover $560 per week but the outstanding balance is still much more than she can afford. The DHB won't fund in home help because insurance is covering the surgery costs, and yet her insurance isn't covering these recovery costs, and WINZ 'emergency help' won't cover post op care either.
Unfortunately there is no immediate family able to help as our mother has just had surgery herself and I'm up in Auckland with my own littlies but I will kick start the contributions. If you're wanting to help with providing dinners there is a meal train started on her FB page. Thank you for your consideration.
