Our Dad was diagnosed on 24th September 2015 with Diffuse B-cell High grade NHL. A large tumor in his Sinus cavaity
Auckland
On Friday 11th September our Dad had a bad headache and a sore swollen eye, he went to the doctors the next morning and then was admitted to Hospital shortly after.
We had, a few days earlier, come back from visiting Dads sister in the Gold Coast whom has Leiomyosarcoma and they thought maybe the pressure from the plane had bought it to a head.
Our whanau have been through a lot this year with Dads younger brother passing in April then his older brother having prostate cancer ( happy to say he has the all clear now) and his Sister fighting Leiomyosarcoma and now our Dad.
At first they thought it was a fungal infection in the back of his eye socket which we were told is common in diabetics...Dad is Type 2.
On Monday 14th September Dad had a biospy carrie out at the Manukau Super Clinic where they took samples from up his nose. A few days later he had to have another biopsy however, this time was put to sleep for the procedure.
On 24th September our Dad was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Diffuse B Cell Lymphoma (an aggressive cancer), he has a mass in and behind his sinus cavity which has been growing for the past few months and has already eroded into both orbits and putting pressure on his left eye which caused the nerves and muscles to stop working and slightly protrude, Unfortunately as a result of these complications, he has close to no vision/movement in that eye and the eye lid only opens partially.
25th he had a lumbar puncture and bone marrow biopsy (which up til today 9th Oct we haven't had all of those results back yet) he also had a full scan to make sure the cancer is not popping up anywhere else. - (they found some in the back of his head as well but the rest of him is thankfully clear)
Dads had a few scans, numerous blood tests, eye tests which we had to go to Greenlanes Acute eye clinic for, and Manukau super clinic for x2 biopsys, lumbar puncture, bone marrow biopsy you name it
29th Sep was Chemo day R-Chop and 30th was High dose Methotrexate..Dad has been sick and unwell for the past few days. Loosing his appetite not eating either he gags at the sight of hospital food ( it is gross) but he is enjoying cold things like ice blocks, jelly etc....
The whole reason for starting this page is to help our parents with any costs that come up including meds that he needs to take at home while he is in between Chemo sessions (There are six sessions so he has approx two weeks at home and approx 1 week in hospital) and petrol costs, parking costs at Middlemore etc
Every "little" bit is a huge massive help and I know my parents, my sister, my brother and myself will greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for your help :) and please feel free to read our Updates page.
I'm involved because i wanted to do something to help our parents while we are going through this tough time...Keeping Positive while Dads going through Chemo treatments.
The last battle... 13 August 2019
This page has closed, but to those whom were following, I know its been awhile. It was a long tough journey for Dad, sadly he was diagnosed in 2018 with mucinous adenocarcinoma and had developed another x3 tumors in the respiratory / digestive systems which also caused him to loose his voice as one of the tumors was pressing on a vocal cord.
Dad put up an amazing fight in the last year but passed away 14th October 2018 surrounded by his family.
R.I.P Dad, its been a real tough time for all of us not having you here.
