Santa's Magical Workshop provide a free, festive event in Palmerston North. Visited by over 9,000 people every Christmas.
Manawatu / Whanganui
Santa's Magical Workshop was founded by my Father, Reg Shaw with a desire to help bring the Magic of Christmas to the Manawatu. Sadly, in 2012 he passed away but his last wishes were that we must continue Santa's Magical Workshop 'for the kids' - which is both for children and those young at heart. Before his passing, my Father asked Steven (Simpson) my husband if he would take on the role and become the jolly man in red. He accepted the role, and has continued the tradition with myself, as Head Elf by his side. In the early days we began by sourcing pre-loved toys and had a team of voluntary 'Santa's Helpers' who wash the toys so they can be gifted out by Santa. However, the volume of stock required means we are seeking to move towards having a high percentage of new items through purchasing these from wholesalers and seeking donations and support from stores and local companies. We receive no funding or financial sponsorship and although there is significant cost involved (time, power, cost of stock purchased from our own pockets, repairs to decorations and lighting, etc) we get so much more value out of the joy that this event brings, and the legacy that my Father has left us, than one could ever put a price on. We endeavor to keep the event entirely free to all who visit so with your donations and support you are helping to keep the Magic of Christmas alive in the Manawatu.
I am the daughter of Reg Shaw who founded Santa's Magical Workshop in 1997. I am also married to Steven Simpson who is the current Santa Claus.
