Grace Johnstone (14) had her right leg amputated above the knee last year and we want to buy her an electric bike to improve her mobility.
Canterbury
Grace Johnstone (14), of West Eyreton, was born with twisted limbs and has endured numerous surgeries since she was three months old.
In May 2015, Grace had her lower right leg amputated above the knee to relieve her from constant pain. Following her spinal surgery in May this year her mobility has been reduced as she has endured several complications and cannot wear her artificial limb for now.
We would love to raise enough to buy her an electric bike so she can enjoy this activity with her family. The pedal-assist function means she can use an e-bike without needing her artificial limb.
If we can raise extra money we would like to fund another young amputee to get a second sport leg so they can run, ski or swim. These sport limbs cost around $3000 each.
Best Foot Forward NZ team captain and adventure training, trips and guiding business owner Bob McLachlan is Grace Johnstone's uncle.
He and his Godzone Pursuit Adventure Race team would love to raise money to help Grace and other young amputees put their 'best foot forward'.
We will adventure race in Queenstown over a 400km course from Saturday, February 25, virtually non-stop, and we hope to inspire people to donate to our cause.
