Helping Elyse Move Forward

  • Grateful Update 💛

We wanted to share a special update on Elyse’s journey this week and say a huge thank you to everyone supporting her.

It’s been a big week of early starts (5am… and even a 4am wake-up 😅) and daily trips to Rotorua for intensive rehab at the Centre of Movement. Elyse has shown incredible strength and determination.

In just a short time, we’re already seeing breakthroughs. This week included multiple one-hour sessions focused on crawling, walking, sitting, and neuropathy work — and something amazing happened… Elyse sat independently all by herself 🙌🏻

This is especially meaningful as we were previously told this may not be possible due to the way her back is fused. The same was said about standing, yet she is now spending over an hour in the standing frame.

She’s also started treadmill walking (now day two), along with great progress in arm movement, tummy time, and sitting work. Her speech therapy session went really well too, and she now has lots of “homework” to continue building on these gains.

We are so proud of her. After such big days, she’s definitely earned those well-deserved sleeps on the way home 🏠

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, and supported Elyse. Your support is making moments like these possible 💛

  • Elyses Leg Surgery

Elyse has recently undergone what we hope will be her final surgery — a significant procedure to straighten and lengthen her left leg, as well as correct both feet.

The year ahead will focus on rebuilding strength through rehabilitation, with the goal of getting Elyse safely back into her standing frame and walker — milestones that support both her independence and quality of life.

An MRI is booked for February, and in true Elyse spirit, she is already counting down the days until she can return to school and be reunited with her friends. After a lovely Christmas, she has been keeping busy at home, lending a hand in the kitchen with Mum while she continues to recover.

Thank you, as always, for walking alongside Elyse and our family. Your support means more than words can express as we step into another year of hope and progress together.
