Helping our Animals in Samoa

  • Poor Mumma

I got a pic sent to me from one of our guests who was visiting Samoa for work. This poor girl was skin & bone with a broken front leg. When I went to inspect, it was not good. Her eyes pleaded to do something. I called APS, but they said there was nothing they could do, so it was a sad day for her. We don't have the resources to nurse a very sick one back to health. We need a shelter or foster homes, but that is difficult here. But at least she is not suffering now.

After Smokeys treatment, we took him home to DAD who was waiting eagerly. Those who love their pets, don't always have means to take them, so I am so happy I can do this for them (thanks to you as well).

This is our neighbor's new dog... He asked me if I could take him to APS for treatment and vaccine. Of course... shows me they want to care for their pets. Thanks to you (Donors), I am able to pay for their treatment (Vaccines $60 tala per pop) plus worm and flea treatment. We will be taking Smokey back in 4-weeks for another vaccine shot.

Unfortunately, Smokey DID NOT enjoy his first car ride and cried all the way!! But we had a better experience on the way home. See my other pic of Smokey with his DAD, who was super grateful for the help.

  • Shana 3-weeks later

Shana's personality is coming out. She is finally playing with our cat Nala, but we have noticed her left leg is bent. APS said she must have had an injury when she was little and it has now set like that and will be that way for life. Nothing we can do but amputate if it gets any worse!! I hope not. This is Shana today, looking so healthy now. Loves to relax....LOL

This little girl was so skinny, it broke my heart, so I just had to put her in my car on the way home. We went to APS the next day for a checkup and treatments. See my other pics of Shana what she looks like now after 3-weeks of giving her love and care. She is the most sweetest puppy, so loyal and affectionate. Today we took her back to APS for her first vaccine shots. 3-weeks ago she was half the weight she is now. So happy. Thanks to you.

  • Snoopy

It has been puppy season...(again) so I haven't been able to desex the female dogs until after the puppies are born. These dogs disappear for at least 2-weeks to tend to their puppies, but when they come back to the main road to look for food, they are so skinny, it breaks my heart. I need to get them fixed as soon as possible, so this doesn't keep happening to them :-(

A few more weeks and I can start desexing again.

Snoopy (in the pic) was already small, but I got a shock to see her in this condition after having puppies. Her owner has agreed for me to help get her fixed.

Thanks to your donations, I was able to get these 4-6 week old puppies to the VETS to get them checked and treated. Other than a little underweight for the smallest puppy, they are all good, but tired from the morning checks.

I couldn't do this without your help :-)

  • Max has finally passed

      11 July 2025

It has been a long battle for Max and it is only appropriate that he held on so long for the kids to be on school holidays when he died at home, so he felt surrounded by those who loved him. I will certainly miss seeing Max at the end of his property waiting every morning for his biscuit treat as I drove past.

This little kitty (Kitty) was the same age as my kitten, but half the size... She had not grown at all and when checked by the Vets was very anemic (white gums), slow moving and underweight. Unfortunately, she wasn't well enough or strong enough to live and died within 24hours of discovering her. It was a very sad day.

This little girl was so skinny when I picked her up, she was taken to the Vets (APS) to be checked and treated (after a good wash). Aside from being underweight and the usual worms, fleas... she is such a sweety. Her gently personality and instant cuddles, melted your heart. A happy ending for Lady, is one of the Vets decided to keep her. Thank you all for your support. All donations goes to rescue and treatment for ones like Lady.

  • Little Pepe

This little girl (Pepe) had a growth on her belly which made her lethargic and unhappy. The Vet operated on her thinking it could be a hernia, but it was a ball of fatty tissue attached to the muscle. Once removed (tummy tuck), she was active and playing again. Thanks to you for your help, we have one happy little Pepe.

On 20th June our village had the privilege in hosting for the day, volunteers from Australia -"Vets Beyond Borders", who desexed and treating all the animals that came, (before they flew back home that night). We were so grateful to them and APS who made it happen.

  • Minnie & Scoobie Do

There are many dogs i feed in the morning on my way to town. I have been working on Minnie (black dog) for a while now to bring her weight up, but each time she makes progress she gets pregnant. She has just had puppies with the grey dog, and become super skinny again. Scoobie Do is also becoming so skinny too that I am concerned for them. Both dogs have a gentle loving nature.

  • Max's progress

After Max's surgery, he improved a little but the swelling in his neck never went down. A biopsy came back with not good results. Unfortunately, the cancer has spread aggressively and there is nothing more we can do for this boy. A special thanks to L... at APS who did her best to save him.

  • Max's surgery

Max had his surgery on Monday, and I have been monitoring him this week. Unfortunately, the swelling in his glands have not gone down on one side, so we are having to give him steroids to see if this helps. He is such a good dog, excellent patient and never complains. Always happy to see me and take his pills. We are doing everything possible to save this beautiful dog.

I have been trying to help this beautiful boy - Max. He is one of the most friendliest dogs in our village and it is such a pleasure to see him every day when I drive past. One day I noticed his face started to swell. I believe he was in a fight with other dogs in our village and ended up with abbesses under his neck that his face swelled up like a rugby ball. APS kindly did a home visit on Max and tried to clean it out, but unfortunately, his face keeps swelling after his course of antibiotics. I am pretty sure he will end up having to have surgery, so the donations I have received so far will go towards that, but I will keep you posted in his progress.
