Civilian and military friends helping POP Pinga (RNZIR / RNZE retired) to recover, maintain and live a normal everyday life.
Nationwide
POP was diagnosed with diabetes several years ago. He has also undergone kidney dialysis and had a kidney donated. In 2017 POP, due to the diabetes, had a problem with his left foot and later in the year, half of his left foot was surgically removed. He received support from the RSA in the form of a mobility scooter for a period of time whilst he recovered. By mid 2018 POP noticed his right foot was affected by the diabetes and he spent a period of visits to the doctor and hospital. Eventually, in the last couple of weeks, POP was admitted; and on Friday the 12 Oct 2018, his lower right leg (below the knee) was removed. POP will, upon discharge from the hospital move to stay with his step daughter. There is no wheel chair access at the step daughters house, and yet to be determined is what other amenities are required door widening, shower access, toilet access etc. It is unsure at this stage if the ministry of health will assist.
I have known POP since the 1980's. I found out in the last week in was in hospital and had his lower right leg removed due to his diabetes. (His left foot has partially been removed also). The funds are being raised to support his quality of life, wheel chair access, changes to living environment etc, at his accommodation once released from hospital.
The funds raised will be used to assist with POPs quality of life, the provision of amenities (wheel chair access, renovations etc required.
