Help Karl kick Cancer

  • Thanks from Maria and Girls

      13 October 2017

To all the generous individuals, family and friends who have donated to Karl’s give a little page, words are not enough to truly express my appreciation and gratefulness that I am feeling. I’m truly blessed and humbled by the heartfelt donations, messages, love and kindness you have all shown for our wee whanau/aiga/family.

Karl was a true warrior who fought a great battle and we both were praying and hopeful for our miracle story. But in the end Karl showed great courage and accepted the inevitable. Karl was always so very strong in body, mind, spirit and this shone through especially when he was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. He was always a fighter and would not let cancer define him. He fought to the bitter end.

Karl’s strength and courage, I will definitely draw on to take one day at a time and to put one foot in front of the other especially for our two beautiful girls. This will be his legacy which I will continue to pass on to Talia and Anya “that their dad was big, strong and had a fighting spirit.

Karl and I had 17 amazing years together and what I will treasure most from these beautiful years is his strength, courage, wisdom and dry sense of humour. He was a great provider for our family, a wonderful dad to his girls and a most loving husband to me. The girls and I will miss him so very much and his memory will live in our hearts forever.

I am so overwhelmed by all your generous donations and on behalf of myself, Talia and Anya thank-you. In my Samoan culture, we express our love and gratitude by saying Fa’afetai, Fa’afetai, Fa’afetai Tele Lava which translate to Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you so very much. God bless you all.

With love Maria, Talia and Anya Hancock

“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us everyday, Unseen, unheard but always near. Still loved, still missed and very dear.” Author Unknown

  • Karl's Fight

      12 August 2017

It is with great sadness that we now have to say the words.

Karl has put up a fight with grit and determination, but no matter how much he kicked the cancer it continued to kick him back harder.

The cancer has continued to spread and his liver has now failed.

Karl's fight is nearing its end and he is now in hospice care, spending what time he has left with his loved ones.

Both Karl and Maria would like to thank everyone for all of the support you given during this epic fight, whether it be financially, extra meals, helping with the girls or just some kind words, they have been so overwhelmed, please know you have all made the journey bearable and given them strength even in the darkest of moments.

  • Thanks from Karl

      3 April 2017

To say I am gobsmacked would be an understatement. The generosity of you wonderful people is overwhelming and very humbling. I am eternally grateful to all of those who have donated. Not only has your support meant a great deal to me – but also to Maria and the girls. Your donations have gone a long way to ensuring the upcoming treatment is paid for. I have been booked in for this on 20 April – so only a few weeks to go. The treatment is known as SIRT or Selective Internal Radiation Treatment – essentially a powerful dose of radioactive substance straight into the liver to hopefully fry the nasties away (google it). Will take a few months to know how successful this has been – so please keep us in your prayers over the coming months as well!

Details for the “Picnic in the Park” party will be released later this week. There are limited tickets so this will sell out. I would love to see you all there – but our venue is not the largest – but it will still be a great afternoon
