Rebuild Katikati Laundromat

$225 donated

My parents own the Katikati Laundromat. Well, they did, until it burnt to the ground.

Bay of Plenty

My parents own the Katikati Laundromat. Well, they did, until it burnt to the ground.

They proudly developed this small business and grew relationships with clients like no other business I've seen. This tragedy has not only affected them, it's affected the entire community.

The Katikati Laundromat was the only Laundromat in town. Mum made the business personal for every individual that walked through those doors. Because of the fire, people can no longer come to wash their things, whether they're, locals, backpackers, a passerby or a local business.

Luckily, the only thing that got hurt from the fire was the business.

However, not only did Mum lose all the machines, and the entire building, the community lost their own belongings. Bags and Bags of washing had disappeared along with the walls of the business. Those were personal items that people and business can not get back.

Insurance, unfortunately, wasn't approved to replace the shed or any of the big commercial washing machines or dryers, seriously impacting the future of the business.

Please help rebuild the best, and the only Laundromat in the small rural Katikati town. Help the community get back the things they lost and help my Mum rebuild her business.

Kirstin Meehan's involvement (page creator)

I am the Daughter of the business owners. I helped my parents welcome customers and wash laundry whilst living at home.

I have watched my mother work tirelessly, which became harder when she went through two surgeries for hip replacements. I helped out wherever I could, and now I am not at home to help out directly, I want to help out by creating this page.

Use of funds

Insurance was only approved of their personal items - chainsaws, drills, tools, their clothes etc. None of the things to do with the business are included in the insurance - the shed, the washers, and dryers etc.

Funds will be used for:

-Buy Washing Machines and Dryers

-Give back to the customers that lost their personal belongings

-Rebuild the Katikati Laundromat
