I have a dream to volunteer in Kenya, Africa - please help me get there! IVHQ: http://www.volunteerhq.org/volunteer-in-kenya
Nationwide
Last year a dream sparked within me to go to Africa to volunteer. It dawned on me just how lucky I am to have been born in a free country when others haven’t been quite as fortunate. I think this is something we often forget. After deliberating the affordability and pushing past my fears I’ve finally decided I’m going.
I’ve found an awesome Kiwi organisation – IVHQ – which I chose as I like their aim of being safe, responsible, affordable, and transparent with their finances. They team up with local organizations and use economies of scale.
I plan to go to Kenya for 3 ½ weeks in December (in between second semester and summer school at uni). I will be teaching and helping out in a Maasai community. It’s going to cost around $5000: flights alone are fluctuating between $2500-$3500, registration fee USD$249, programme fee USD$470, travel insurance ($?), vaccinations - roughly $800, visa USD$50, water USD$5 per week, and transfer back to the airport ($?).
Most importantly, I will be giving a donation to the local community of at least $1000 and want to take over colouring and drawing books, pens and pencils, skipping ropes etc for the kids.
Every.single.dollar.counts!!
Thank you so, so much for your support. I hope this is the first of many volunteering trips.
