**For child protection reasons we cannot show Ly Hour's face**
Ly Hour is an intelligent and caring 15 year old boy living in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Born with a facial deformity, Ly Hour has recently been diagnosed with leukemia.
Born into an extremely poor family, his father earns USD $5-7 per day to support his wife and 3 children.
Before his cancer diagnosis, his family built a solid home with tiled floors and concrete walls. The house is 4.5m x 8m for the family of 5. His parents borrowed from a micro finance company and now owe them USD $1,000. As you can imagine, feeding 5 people and paying off a loan is near impossible.
I have met, taught and fallen in love with Ly Hour and his family. He is a wonderful artist, adept student and has a bubbly, friendly personality. I will be going to Siem Reap at the end of August and my dream is to pay off their loan which will provide much relief for the family during this difficult and heart breaking time.
I started sponsoring Ly Hour through the organisation New Hope Cambodia after meeting him in January 2016 while volunteer teaching at his school.
Since returning to NZ I was informed that Ly Hour was diagnosed with leukemia, a devastating childhood cancer which for children that are malnourished and live in extreme poverty is a huge battle to survive.
Quan Am Foundation is a NZ registered charity run by Lucette Dillon. All funds raised over the past 4 years have directly benefited over 1,000 children.
The main purpose of Quan Am Foundation is to help vulnerable children in Vietnam, as well as occasional programs in Cambodia and Nepal. I can personally assure you that 100% of all donations go to those in need. I fund every part of my travel including flights, accommodation, visas, transport etc. If you give me $1, I'll spent that $1 (or 14,987 Vietnamese Dong!) to help someone in need. The main places we sponsor are orphanages or charity schools.
