Help Manna4Life and Kevin and Leakhena Knight in Cambodia purchase a replacement vehicle for their 1986 Honda Civic that is beyond repair.
Otago
Kevin and Leakhena have been working with the evicted community of Tang Kiev, Cambodia since 2009, a community that was violently evicted and moved 38 kilometres north of Phnom Penh and dumped into an empty field in the middle of the night. This was the second violent eviction in 9 months for this community.
Kevin and Leakhena chose to start an NGO and move into the relocation site with the people. Over the last four years they have worked with the community in building 93 homes, a water treatment centre, a primary school with grades 1-4 and now have a farm project that has started with 3 hectares of land, which will be used as an income generation project for the community.
Manna4Life currently runs with limited resources and relies on donor funding from many countries including New Zealand. Kevin and Leakhena were donated an old car for the ministry, which has provided transportation for both them and the community for the last three years.
Due to the expansion of the community and the farm project a truck was already needed. Now with the demise of their 1986 Honda Civic, a 29 year old relic, that need now turns to urgent. The farm project is now moving forward with an aquaponics building going up in January which will provide employment in the community that has limited employment opportunities, and be able to transport the produce to businesses in Phnom Penh.
I have been visiting Kevin and Leakhena Knight and the community development work they do in Cambodia for many years now. This year currently while I am on site, their donated vehicle has currently reached its end. In New Zealand standards this car should have been destined for the scrap heap many years ago. Their ministry Manna4Life works with people that have been violently evicted from Phnom Penh and dumped 38 kilometres north of the city. Kevin and Leakhena chose to move into this community after being dumped in an empty field with nothing. I want to help raise funds for a replacement vehicle to assist in their work in this community, for their ministry and for personal safety on the highways in Cambodia.
