Mary-Ann was diagnosed with cancer the same time as breaking her neck. Its been a year so far for her recovery journey which is ongoing.
Nelson / Tasman
In October 2015 Mary-Ann had a fall from her horse. She was helicoptered to the hospital. Later in the evening she was scanned and it was discovered her neck was badly broken. The scan also revealed some lesions in her vertebrae and the following day they discovered she has Multiple Myloema and it was in stage 3 already.
Treatment was started reasonably soon after and so Mary-Ann needed to heal her break and deal with cancer treatment at the same time. The cancer hindered the healing of the break and the pain was terrible. When combined with the side effects from chemo it has been a very horrible year for her.
Earlier in the year ACC stopped Mary-Ann's weekly payments so Mary-Ann had to go back to work. We are hoping to raise a wee bit of money so she can spend a little bit more time at home recovering this time round. It will be used for meeting those extra costs of travel and days off work and extra dr visits. All the little things that make life hard when someone is unwell and not receiving their usual wages.
Recently Mary-Ann has been in Christchurch to have a Stem Cell Transplant. This procedure causes the patients to be very sick and it takes a long while to recover. Mary-Ann is due to come home in the next couple of weeks so her friends and I thought it would be cool to see what we can come up with together! Thank you for your time.
A few of Mary-Ann's friends wanted to set up a page to help out. My friend Morwenna and I (Hayley, Mary-Ann's daughter) decided we could do it. Alol funds are solely going to Mary-Ann.
