Matt needs financial support after a rocky couple of years battling his perthes disease

Waikato

My name is Courtney,

I am 23 years old and have an amazing partner who is in need of a little giving!

At aged three, Matt was diagnosed with leg perthes disease, a childhood condition where the blood supply to the growth plate of the bone in the hip joint becomes inadequate. As a result the bone softens and breaks down.

Matt enjoyed a lovely childhood where he played hockey and soft ball. As he grew older the pain in his hip worstened and he was forced to quit playing the sports he loved.

At 22 Matt had his first hip replacement. Unfortunately the surgery did not go to plan and he was left with severe nerve damage. This meant Matt had to learn to walk again, was left with partial feeling in his foot and was out of work for over 6 months.

After recovering and returning to work Matt went on to study in the field of Health and fitness. He landed his dream job and was enjoying life. Unfortunately in 2014 Matt was having horrible pains in his hip and had to go to the hospital. They found he had developed an infection in his titanium hip replacement and required surgery instantly. They removed his titanium hip and after a lengthy 7 weeks replaced it with a ceramic one. He has been in and out of hospital since August with complications causing pain and multiple infections.

Matt has been off work for a long time and is struggling financially. My income is supporting us however it cannot support us forever. He is also recieving small payments from WINZ as ACC is NOT supporting Matt at present.

The financial support that "give a little" could provide would contribute to living costs, doctors appointments, physio and allowing Matt to be the 26 year old he is and enjoy life!!! He has missed out on many experiences due to his condition and he deserves to live a normal life.

In the future, we would love a car that is more suitable for Matt to get in and out of. Our current car is too small and low which means Matt has to bend down to get into the car causing pain in his hip.

Matt is hands down the most amazing, kind hearted, funny and genuine person. When you ask him how he is his reply will always be "living the dream" and with an attitude like that I think he deserves some help. He has been through so much in his 26 years, I want to see something good happen for him.

Thank you from Matt and myself

Xo

A reminder of why we are doing this :)   12 April 2015

When writing te give a little page there was SO much I wanted to say but forgot to put in. Just thought it was appropriate to mention how great our families are in supporting Matt when things get tough. Our parents have been great in offering support financially and we are very greatful.

I just want to clarify that I have started this page to allow people to get to know Matts story and give them the choice to support him by sharing the page or offering a donation. We are not looking for handouts, or begging for help. Not many things have gone matts way and he has had a hard time. I am trying to give the people who know and love Matt or who have read his story, an opportunity to give something to him to show him how much he is loved and cared for. We don't want anyone feeling mislead and that's why I wrote down all possible costs that will be covered if we received donations.

What we have received so far is amazing, we cannot thank you enough.

Thankyou from Matt and myself we hope we can return the favour to you one day xxx
