We are just your typical kiwi family who just want the best for each other especially our two girls, Alexi (4) and Alyssa (3). Jen (mummy) is also wanting to become a nurse, but is unable to.
Jen has chronic plantar fasciitis in both feet. Normally, for plantar fasciitis, you just go and see a physiologist, maybe a cortisone injection or two. For serious cases you just get some custom made orthotics and some good quality shoes recommended especially for you by a podiatrist and that's it. Fixed!
But all this has not worked even though we saw the best physiotherapist in town who also consulted with Dr John Mayhew, ex All Blacks doctor and current Warriors team doctor.
The pain has increased steadily over the past 2 years to the point where she now has several bone spurs and needs a wheelchair and some ramps and rails all through our home just so that she can function daily. Being wheelchair bound is especially hard to take for a thirty something year old mother of 2 girls under 5 years of age.
The next stage is surgery on both feet, which ACC will not fund and the public health system does not deal with at all. They are too busy treating cancers, arthritis and broken bones.
She is needing one operation per foot costing $5 grand each. We already have $2 grand of savings, so needing another $3 for the first operation, which is happening in October this year sometime. Then there is 2 months of recovery before the second operation takes place. The second operation is needed as well because otherwise she will favour her good foot and undo the operation. That is how she has two sore feet - by one initially getting plantar fasciitis, she favoured her good foot, which cased the condition to establish in her good foot.
