    Hey guys,

All settled back into my cozy flat in Dunedin, body has healed and ready for more tramping!

Padam is doing really well and the guest house is coming along nicely. He's just sent through a few photos of his beautiful family as well as a few snaps of the guesthouse-- some from just after the earthquake.

Hopefully I'll have a few more shots of the rebuild soon... Anyone feel like a trip to Nepal next year?!

    Big love,

    Nic

Padam is doing really well though it was a very quiet tourist season in his village. The lodge is coming along nicely but there is still a lot of work to be done.

As for me, I'm currently resting my weary body in the beautiful town of Naseby, adjusting to sleeping in a normal bed again and planning my next adventure.

Thank you again for all your wonderful donations. To all the people that donated anonymously, I send massive hugs through the power of the inter-web.

    Mucho Aroha,

    Nic

  • Shivalaya: Post Earthquake

I've had a few long chats with Padam over the last couple of months. Considering what has happened, he's amazingly upbeat. The village is working together to clear out debris and knock down unstable buildings.

Monsoon has created all sorts of mud and has made the work incredibly tough going. Some aid has been reaching Shivalaya (mainly rice and temporary shelters). Using a tarpaulin and the remains of his kitchen, Padam has managed to make a small shelter for him and his family. Impressively, a temporary school was built soon after the earthquake so that the kids (including Simram, Padam's daughter) could get back to learning.

Even with all that's going on, Padam is still up for a laugh. He's challenged me to run up a 2000m + mountain (or hill, if you're Nepali) when I'm next in Nepal. Hilarious.

Thanks a million for the generous donations and kind words of support. It means a lot.

    Love,

    Nic

Difficult to see but half the lodge is now in the river. The remainder of the house has been gutted by the earthquakes. These photos were taken by Seth Wolpin from Wide Open Vistas-- a US based non-profit organisation. Padam is hoping to send more photos soon.
