I'm 24 years old, and have just found out the cyst in my upper arm hast returned 6 years after it being removed.
Canterbury
I'm 24 years old, I love reading watching movies, baking and spending time with my partner.
When I was 17 I found out I had an (A B C) Aneurysmal Bone Cyst in my right humerus, A.B.Cyst causes your bone to deform while growing. The bone cells fill up with blood instead of hardening causing the bone to have more marrow/blood than bone. It can cause the growth plates to grow unevenly or even fracture.
I had it removed and had regular checkups to make sure everything was healing fine.
6 years later I have just found out it has come back in my upper arm, possibly shoulder and spine. I wasn't going to make a Give A Little page, but with pressure from friends and family I thought 'Bugger it. What have I got to lose' And some spare funds will be so helpful as, worse case scenario I may lose my arm as the cyst might be unrepairable.
The fund will go towards doctors and hospital stays, medications, scans and food whilst in hospital. If I do lose my arm it will go towards rehabilitation and prosthetics.
So far I am being treated through the public healthcare system, my surgery is yet to be discussed but will probably be done through the Christchurch Burwood Orthopedic Unit.
Bone Scan 16 July 2016
Received an appointment in Christchurch at the Nuclear Medicine Department. It will tell me whether the bone cyst is only in my arm or if it is anywhere else in my body. It will also show how extensive the cyst is at present and how destructive it is.
Next is a follow up appointment to discuss surgery options.
