My 8 year old daughter Emily was diagnosed with (ALL) Acute Lympaphystic Leukemia in 2014.
Manawatu / Whanganui
Emily was at her grandmothers house when her grandmother realised there was a very large bruise on her back. We then took her to wanganui hospital and they could not explain how or why it was there. Within weeks of each other she had broken many bones and had many bruises and was going back and fourth to wanganui hospital. Blood test after blood test, xray after xray they could still not find out what was wrong. She was then sent to starship hospital and after 2 days she was diagnosed with leukemia.
She was then admitted into hospital for 3 months and started Chemotherapy right away. Emily has 2 years left of chemotherapy.
She is in and out of hospital alot.
Emily has to travel to starship hospital in Auckland from Wanganui every week for treatment. There have been times where we were unable to seek the funding to fly there. So we have had to drive, what is meant to be a 6 hour drive there then turns into a 12 hour drive.
Emily is on a wide range of medication that is not subsidised by the government. We have to pay for the first 20 prescriptions until they are free, but we have to start all over again each year.
I also had to leave my job to care for my daughter and teach her as much as I can as she was not allowed to go to school. Emily is just starting to go back to school now and finding it difficult adjusting back to normal life.
Emily has a loving family that includes her 9 year old sister who thinks the world of her. Emily is a lovely, positive, strong and full of life. she has made such an amazing impact on other peoples lives.
Any extra funding will be highly appreciated and life changing for Emily and may even help provide better treatment and future for my little girl.
I am involved because Emily is my daughter
