Please help me to save my dog Jack, by donating towards his surgery and treatment

Auckland

Jack the shar pei cross was found wandering the motorway in Auckland and taken to the pound. He was then taken home by a family who couldn't keep him, and advertised him on TradeMe. I saw his photo and read his story, and before I knew it I was making the long drive to pick him up. That was almost 3 years ago. Jack turned out to be the dearest, kindest natured old soul, and he's been my best mate ever since.

Jack came to me with some pretty bad health problems, which made things hard financially from day one. Due to his pre-existing conditions I haven't been able to get insurance to help. I have worked hard and taken out loans to cover several thousand dollars worth of ongoing vet bills, which I'm still paying off. As a student it has been tough, but I've always made sure he is well cared for.

After a few good months, it was a shock on Wednesday (3rd June) to find Jack collapsed on my bedroom floor and unable to move. I rushed him straight to the vet, who put him on a drip and began doing tests to work out the problem. I worried he wouldn't make it - So I was thrilled that the next day he was up and walking again. But the bad news.. Jack has a spleenic tumour, which means he will need surgery if he is to survive (the average survival time is 6 weeks after the first bleed, which is what happened to cause his collapse). I didn't wish to have to appeal to friends and family, but the reality is that having used all my savings and with little left to sell I really need some extra help if I am going to be able to afford the emergency surgery on top of the mounting vet bills for all his tests and care already. I am looking at around $5000 altogether. Your donation, however small, will help me to save my friend, so please, please help us out if you can. Thank you so much - Minnie and Jack xo

A huge thankyou to everyone who has helped - Jack has had his surgery  19 June 2015

Hi everyone, thank you all so much for your donations, I have been well and truly blown away by the support Jacks story has received, I never expected such an amazing response.

My vet Andrew (St Lukes Vet Centre, Auckland) agreed to go ahead with Jacks surgery and receive payment after the fundraiser closes. Jack has now had the splenectomy - Thanks to all of your help.

The surgery itself was a success, but sadly further tumours were discovered in Jacks abdomen in the middle lobe of his liver and on the diaphragm, areas where they cannot be surgically removed. Removal of the largest tumour on the spleen was still worthwhile as it might give Jack more time, and make him more comfortable. He is recovering well and seems much more his happy self.

Again, thankyou all so very much for the donations, as a result Jack has been able to receive all the care he needs, and it has been a huge burden lifted for me. I had of course wished for a better outcome, but we have done our best and as a result I might have some more precious time with him. If you would like to receive a card from Jack, please send your name and address to minnie.fb24@gmail.com.

Love,

Minnie & Jack
