Help Save Pinky

      14 October 2014

Guess who's coming home tomorrow!!!!!! Pinky!!!!! She is doing so well after her leg amputation that she has been approved to go home tomorrow! She is eating on her own and attempting to walk. She's able to do her toileting on her own. She is a real little trooper and we are incredibly proud of her!!!!! A HUGE HUGE thank you for everyone thats supported her through this insane and long journey. Most people I talk to (even vets) are AMAZED she even made it with so many injuries. I haven't asked lately what her bills are up to but last time I checked it was close to 14k. Mind boggling amount of money but it brought her back from the very brink of death so to us its just part of life. We are so humbled and overwhelmed by the support people have given financially, THANK YOU!!!!! Thank you to everyone that has helped it means so very much to us and to her! I hope Pinky's accident has highlighted the need for insurance - especially good insurance for even a few people out there. I learnt on the weekend that 60% of people faced with a vets bill of $700 or more will choose to euthanise! That was never an option for us, if Pink was ready to fight then we would fight alongside her. Now we can bring her home and focus on getting full use of her remaining leg. We are very excited to have her back home and hopefully back to sleeping in her favourite spot, right on top of the baby growing in my tummy (Im pretty sure she thinks its her baby) I will continue to update you all on her progress at home. Much Love, Danella, Sabri and the meows.

On Thursday the vets decided to amputate her left back for the best chance of her survival. So back into surgery. She is doing really well though. She had a bit of a sad day on Friday and refused to come out of her blanket nest. Today we have been into see her twice and she's doing well. She's moved out of the intensive care part of the hospital and is in a big recovery room which is much quieter and more comfortable for her. She has a nice window to look out and the nurses tell us she got up onto the windowsill as well to look out which is great. Although she we visited she was well and truly cuddled up in her bed. Thank you everyone for your love and support. We do keep her updated with whats happening and all the lovely messages and she get her purrs on louder than I have ever heard. I think she knows you all are fighting alongside her. xxxxx

Oh Miss Pink you are trouble! I spoke to the surgeon in charge of her care today. Her poor paw is not doing too good. They have found even more dyeing tissue and keep having to cut more and more of her paw away. She is really doing her best to fight off the infections but they are coming thick and fast. I had a little word to her today about focusing a little less on getting the nurses to scratch her ears and a little more on fighting infections. So far all the bacteria is treatable with antibiotics which is good news but obviously the risk of her getting a bad infection is high. Shefs had a lot of injuries, far more than what most cats could have coped with. Today they will take her into surgery again today and together with the other specialists at Veterinary Specialist Centre decide if she will need to lose her paw. Itfs such a hard choice for them to make as she has been trying to use the paw. If I stop scratching her ears she goes to use her paw instead before realizing itfs a big (currently purple bandaged) blob. She also is trying really hard to stand up and move around. I guess we will hear some time this evening how she got on and we can go in and see her. Shefs looking at another week in at VSC which is getting expensive. As of today her bill was sitting at $12600 and thatfs before todayfs surgery and next weekfs care. Itfs very stressful for us, and for her two brothers and sister who miss her. Thank you so much to everyone following her story and who has helped and sent kind words and love her way. I do tell her what you all are saying and read out the comments. I know she doesnft really understand but I think she knows there are lots of people on her team cheering her on.

Little update on Miss Pink Pink, hopefully will have more news later in the day. She's doing well. I haven't spoken to the surgeon since Monday. I will pop in this morning and see how he thinks she is doing. From our point of view she's doing good! She's alert and interactive. When she hears things happening in the hospital she's very interested in whats going on and gets her big eyes on. She meowed at Sabri and I both when we stopped scratching her head which she LOVES! So its a good sign thats she's getting a bit of her spunk back. Hopefully we get some good news and can take her home soon.

We went into see Pink this morning and again this afternoon. She's doing really well. The vert still describes her back paw that had the toes amputated as doing ""ooookkkkkaaay"" Which is still better than not OK. The beautiful news is when we gave Pinky her favourite head rub this evening she got her purrrrr's on!!! She was purring!! Just incredible. She's happy and breathing well. Tomorrow hopefully her medication levels can come down a little bit which may mean she can get the IV lines out of her right back paw which would give her a little more freedom!. Yay Pinky we are SOOOOOO proud of you! And of course I couldn't update without saying how very overwhelmed and humbled by everyone who has been contributing to her care through Give a Little. Its really just blown our minds and we feel so very blessed. Thank you! She continues to fight so hard every day!

Pinky update: We went to see Pink this morning and she's doing well. She has been sedated to have her dressings changed so was pretty sleepy and blissed out with the heater blasting her. Its lovely for her to have the warm air from the heater as she has so little of her fur left now and being a Dubai girl she does love the sun. The Vet said she's doing ok. Which is better than not ok. There was a fair amount of dead tissue on her repaired foot and still she is digging out gravel and dirt so hopefully Pinky has enough fight left in her to ward off any infections. Thank you to everyone who has donated to her through our Give a Little page!!!! We are so overwhelmed by all the love and messages of hope flowing in and just feel so blessed she's still with us and still fighting.
