Lily had a heart attack with 3 blocked arteries on New Year's Eve. While recovering, further test revealed Cancer of the Stomach.
Wellington
Lily Guerra is the mother of Realyn Guerra Fernandez. She is 57 years old and arrived in NZ on 18 June 2015 with a visitor’s visa to spend time with her daughter’s family and help in taking care of her 2 grandchildren (Rohan 5 yrs old & Riva 18 mo old). Realyn has just recently returned to work from her Parental leave.
Unfortunately, Lily had a heart attack while preparing for New Year’s Eve dinner. Emergency angioplasty was done immediately to fix her 2 blocked arteries. Then 5 days later, they fixed 1 more artery. While recovering from the recent heart attack, a thorough check-up was conducted because she has become too much underweight (about 33.8 kgs by then). Blood test results showed that her red blood cells were very low (58 only), normal level is 120+. She has been experiencing discomfort in her tummy which was diagnosed back in the Philippines as peptic ulcer and was treated with Omeprazole (aka Losec). But recently the stomach pain was getting worst. She can’t eat properly as she’s throwing up most of the time. The hospital did a CT scan and found a tumor in the lower part of her stomach. On 1 Feb 2016 an endoscopy confirmed that she has an advanced gastric cancer (Stomach Cancer). Four days after endoscopy, she was rushed back to Wellington hospital by ambulance. She nearly fainted and blood test results showed that she’s bleeding inside causing her to be anemic. She is still confined in the hospital until the specialists decides on her treatment plan (surgery or chemo / radiotherapy).
The aim of this cause is to raise funds to assist Realyn in supporting the medical expenses for her mother, Lily’s treatment. In order for Realyn to return to work, she also has to sponsor and shoulder the travel expenses for her brother to come over to New Zealand to help out in taking care of their mother while she is seriously ill.
May we support Realyn and her family with some of our financial blessings to assist Lily with her medical treatment and maintaining her health and wellness until she is able to travel back home.
Thank you for your support and your kind heart!
I am just an ordinary human being who wants to PAY IT FORWARD. I involved myself for this cause as I have experienced my own cancer journey and I fully understand what others may be feeling while they go through this trying times.
Treatment plan 22 February 2016
Mother Lily and Realyn has met up with the Medical doctor today at Wellington Hospital to discuss treatment plan for her Stomach Cancer. She was advised to have surgery and chemotherapy. However, timing is complicated as she is still recuperating from her recent heart attack last New Year's eve. If she will have the surgery and treatment done in New Zealand, they were advised that the cost will be about quarter of a million Dollars (NZ$250,000) because she is on a Visitor's Visa. The travel insurance will only cover up to $10,000 for her cancer treatment.
The only option they have is for her to travel back to her home country, Philippines, so she could be with her spouse and other children. Realyn and her young family will need to accompany her. We are hoping and praying that Mother Lily's haemoglobin count will stay at the safe level to travel. She cannot eat solid food because of the cancer in her stomach which is making passage for food very small. Her weight has now gone down to 31.8 kgs.
Please continue to pray for Lily Guerra's healing. May she receive the treatment necessary for her cancer recovery in the Philippines.
