  • Today I sent $2,600 to Sushil thanks to YOU!

Sushil's uncle has membership to a community forest and can apply for permission to cut down trees to build a house. This means the logs can be acquired at a much cheaper cost. Today I sent ALL the money I have raised so far to enable Sushil to put a deposit on the logs and start the process. It takes a while for all the paperwork to be processed. In the meantime Sushil has managed to get a JOB as a van driver! This means he can help towards paying the rent for little mud hut the family now lives in! Our calculations for building a new house show that if we can raise about $1,000 more we should be good! Thanks so much to everyone for your support xx

Sushil and his family have MOVED out of the TENT! They were successful in beating all the other people to rent the old goat & chicken house. They have all worked so hard to clean it up. The other day I asked Sushil if his mattress was like mine... with springs inside and he replied: NO a mattress like that is only for RICH people in hotels! So I decided to be a little frivolous... and instead of sending just enough money for rent... I sent enough to buy a MATTRESS too! A real mattress!

COPY OF SUSHILS MESSAGE: Yeaaa...we have also become rich because we bought matress!

THANK YOU SO SO SO SO MUCH EVERYONE!!

    COPY OF MESSAGE FROM SUSHIL:

There is one mud house where used to be kept goats and chicken and i had asked about that room to landlord he said we have to pay 6 thousand for that room. Only one room but the wall also is little bit slope because of earthquake. I would have to buy bed because there is hole inside floor. And here, snake is coming outside because of earthquake. My family is saying that to go there because we dont have other chance to get good rooms right now. Its better to go there there to hide us from rain and strom.

We just gather again for having lunch we moved to search room from since this morning...and we will spread to search rooms again after having lunch. If we didn't find we have to move in that mud house where use to be kept goats and chickens.

  • Sleeping in a tent during storms

    COPY OF MESSAGE FROM SUSHIL:

We all are searching rooms from yesterday to save us from rain and terrible lightin. We have not slept well last night because of rain and blowing air. Tent blows and we come out to catch but we drenched. Its uphill task to get room now everywhere. My all family member have spread for searching room today. This is the situation of my Country. U know here is fighting between room searcher. Government has announced to reduce prize of room but there is not implement in real life. The landlord just hiking rent of room and we dont have other option. Now is 10000 for 2 rooms (NZD$135 per week) Before 4 or 5 would be used to ok (NZD$54 per week) But now...100% hike. It makes us unhappy...

A mud house is 4 thousand per week. But dont know when it will broke down in rain and strom. But im sure if it broke down nothing will happen to us because it is very small.

PLEASE KNOW YOUR DONATIONS WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THIS FAMILY xx

Unfortunately tents and aid sent by other countries are not being distributed and instead are being sold off at inflated prices. Before the earthquake a tent cost $26 now it costs $130. So sad.

At least Sushil and his community are now receiving love & support directly from NZ!!! Yay!!!
