Please help me with my dream of representing New Zealand at the 2016 World Open Water Swimming Championships in Holland this July.
Nelson / Tasman
Hi.... I am Talya Harwood competitive swimmer and a year 12 student at Waimea College in Nelson from Golden Bay.
During my short 5 year swimming career it has really only been in the last 3 years while training under my coach Andy Adair with the Tasman Swim Club that I have started to excel.
I am very dedicated to my sport although the trainings are a huge demand on my life and schooling.
The commitment, time management, mental strength and hard work are skills that I am learning, these are just a small part of what is required to make it in this sport. I quickly came to realise that these skills will be extremely beneficial throughout my life, so I have committed myself to being the best that I can.
In the last 12 months I have achieved Gold in the 16-17 age group for the 5Km swim and bronze in the 10km 16-17 age group at the Open Water Champs in Taupo in January.
Over the last 3 years I have broken many regional open age group records for different pool events such as 1500, 800, 400 and 200m freestyle, I have achieved 7 bronze medals, 1 silver and 2 golds at National Age Group Champs, I ranked 4th at NZ Opens where I competed in the 800m freestyle against Lauren Boyle and Emma Robinson who are competing in Rio this year.
This is an exciting opportunity for me to represent my country on the world stage. Although it comes at a cost of approximately $6,000 your donations will help cover the cost of flights, accommodation and coach support.
My parents work extremely hard to support me, but due to this large financial requirement I will need all the support I can get.
Any donation received would be gratefully appreciated by myself and my family. Any extra money fundraised we would like to donate to a Child Cancer charity. Thank you!
Hi Paula, thanks so much for your support and not just financially, you and Caitlin have always been there for me so I hope I can do you proud x
