Please help me fund my stray cat 'trap-neuter-return' programme.

Waikato

Hi, I am currently carrying out a trap-neuter-return' programme within a community of local stray cats. The cats are caught, taken to the vets for neutering, then returned to the place I released them from. Any kittens I catch are fostered out to caring homes. I also feed this group of cats, and keep an eye on their general health. I fund all of this myself. I would like to set traps more often - particularly now that the cats are in breeding season - but i am being hindered by funds. I would appreciate any help that people can give me with this. If you are able to help out, thank you very much in advance!

Currently, I have caught 6 cats. 1 of these was a kitten that was fostered. 4 have been returned to the place I got them from, and 1 was an elderly cat who now lives with me.

I am working alone to trap, feed and get my local cats neutered. As an animal lover, I believe that stray cats deserve our compassion and care. The adult cats that I have caught so far have all been in good health, however, the kittens here suffer - particularly in winter. My goal is to stop our stray cats reproducing, to feed them, and monitor the group, as part of an ongoing project.

I believe that the value we place on animals (and hence, the way we treat them) depends on the value they bring to us as pets, entertainment, food, etc.. Stray cats are generally thought of as 'pests'.

Anyone who has ever owned a cat knows how much they love warmth, food, and companionship....cats who have been strays all their life have the same needs, but they don't show us, because they haven't been 'humanised'.

Many people would say that the best thing to do to stray/feral cats is to euthanize them....but is that fair?....if your cat became a stray, would you feel happy about him/her being killed because he/she didnt have a home?.......there are several reasons why cats become strays, but the overriding reason is that not enough people get their cats neutered. My goal right now is to stop the stray cats from reproducing, but in time, I hope to help educate the community about why "i'll just let my cat have one litter, so that my kids can see the miracle of life" is a really, really bad idea.
