Joanne & Mike have asked me to update you all with the following message......

Not wanting to think about this page too much,we only looked at it this morning. We are overwhelmed by the generosity and support of all of you who have made donations and sent us messages. Mike has been on the active list for a week and he now waits for a compatible donor. Bless these unselfish people who gift their organs to give life to others. We are truly grateful. Many thanks again, Ngatai family.❤️

I would like to introduce you to Mike, Joanne & Thomas, 16 years ago Mike was diagnosed with cardio myopathy – this is a condition that causes the heart to enlarge and become weak, this is something that progresses over time and cannot be “cured” , Mike is now under the care of the Hearty Towers Transplant team, awaiting a heart transplant. This is a hereditary condition, Mike’s father, two brothers and a cousin are also affected by this, one of Mike’s brothers and cousin already having had a heart transplant, and there is a 50/50 chance their children may also be affected by this defective heart gene.

The reason I have set up this page is that at present Mike is unable to work in his chosen profession, cabinet maker. This has not been easy for mike as he is a worker and is still, where possible involved in fundraising for Thomas’s School and sports teams. Mike and Joanne have to spend time at Hearty towers, this involves living in so there are things like parking to pay, petrol, food and such, they are also aware that people come from all over New Zealand for the same reasons and some are also struggling, being the people that they are they would like to help some of those people too with any funds raised, this may just be helping out with someone else’s parking or petrol, or helping to feed some at the “community meal” in Hearty towers, this being a reflection of the people that they are. There are also many hospital visits to attend on a regular basis.

Bronwyn Lindley's involvement (page creator)

I am involved because I have worked with Joanne for a number of years and know that she would do the same for anyone if the position was reversed.

Use of funds

All funds Raised will go directly to the Ngatai family to help them with costs and take some of the pressure off, as mentioned above it will most likely help some of the other people from around the country that Mike and Joanne might meet at “Hotel Hearty”
