**Thank you to everyone for all the support you have given through Vialli’s Givealittle page, whether it being through donations or just sharing the page with others about his story. Your support has gone towards paying for his numerous hospital visits, 4 months of medication (Pharmanex Reishimax GLp) and of course giving us the peace of mind to focus on what matters. It is only with your support that we’ve been able to get through this difficult time as we have **
Hi my name's Vivienne, and I'm trying to raise funds to support my brave brother Vialli with his living costs during this difficult time.
Vialli grew up in Tauranga and moved away from home to Auckland to continue his education and is currently determined to keep himself busy and finish his degree at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in Hospitality and Management. He's a happy and positive guy who loves dancing, cars and bowling.
In Sept 2015 we noticed a slight bulge in Vialli's right eye. MRI and CT scans showed it was some form of fatty tissue/tumour in the right eye orbit. A few weeks later, Vialli underwent surgery at Greenlane Hospital in Auckland to remove the tumour, unfortunately the surgeon could only remove 60% of it due to the proximity of the tumour to his optic nerves. On the eve of Christmas 2015, we received the devastating news that Vialli is battling with 'Perivascular Epithelioid Cell Tumour' (PEcoma), a form of Soft Tissue Sarcoma Cancer.
We were told that there aren't enough relative cases the oncologists can look to for help. Sarcoma Cancer is a rare type of cancer accounting for approx. 1% of adult malignancies. The particular form of Sarcoma Cancer that Vialli has is even more uncommon, with statistics difficult to ascertain. Our oncologist has told us that he's the only person to currently have PEcoma in New Zealand and one of the first in the world to have it located in the eye orbit.
Due to the uncertainty, rarity and location of the tumor the doctors have decided to take a more conservative approach in Vialli’s treatment, by monitoring the mitosis rate and spread of the cancer cells over the next couple of months.
My family and I thank you for taking the time to read our page. We greatly appreciate every donation given to support him and his day to day needs.
A big sis who wants to see her brother beat cancer and continue living his life to the fullest and achieve all his dreams and aspirations.
14/4/16 So many appointments and scans 14 April 2016
It’s been very busy in between all the doctor check-ups, ophthalmologist and oncologist meetings. Vialli has recently noticed he's seeing double vision in his right eye, eye scans has discovered there are ridges in the back of his eye due to damage caused by tumor. Whether or not it can be treated we will find out in the next few months. There will be two appointments on the 19th of April to talk about his most recent PET and MRI scans. Thank you for all your ongoing love and support.
