Caring for my mother in her last few months

Dargaville, Northland

Dec 2025 I discovered my mother aged 54 yrs has terminal breast cancer, in February 2026 she was rushed to hospital via helicopter as she was having a seizure. Her cancer has moved into her brain.

Mum now has to have someone with her at all times, she is not allowed to drive long distances, and must have someone present when showing in case she has another seizure.

She is not able to do the work load she use to do but that is where I come in, as well as caring for mum I am also caring for her farm and animals.

However I now have no income, and I do not want to have to lean on my mother who receives a benefit to financially support me and take what little money she has left after her bills.

I would like to be able to pay for my own personal expenses but to also be able to spoil my mother in her last few months, take her to get her hair done, nails done, for a spa treatment etc little things to make her feel beautiful, take her out to dinner or brunch while we still can before the cancer takes over her mind.

I don’t require a lot to live as I can survive on the bare minimum, but to be able to treat my mother as she truly deserves before her time is up.

I do not want to take her independence or income while she is of sound mind.

Any donations at all would be greatly appreciated and allow me to continue to be there to care for her.

Only half way through her radiation treatment   5 April 2026

Mum is half way through her round of radiation treatment on her brain, she went in Monday and had treatment everyday then gets a break over the weekend. Her speech was slurred straight after but seems to be in high spirits and feeling really good about it all, then took a turn yesterday around afternoon, feeling a bit drained and was coughing quite a bit a bit, then she felt like her head needed cooling so was pouring water over her head for a bit, then struggles with swallowing dinner. Stubborn as she is she insisted she was just in need of bed and I keep an eye on her throughout the night.

His morning she was clearly not ok, she was still in bed When I woke, (normally she’s wakes 5am every morning) she was weak and shaking and lethargic, after getting some food into her she started complaining about her left eye and not being able to move her tongue on the left side.

Took her to dargaville emergency and we have discovered that her left side is paralysed just on the inside, so we are now heading down to Auckland emergency to get her ct scan and before her treatment tomorrow if she is even still having it.

She is currently unable to swallow food and is struggling with water, they believe there is liquid and or swelling on the brain.

We have made it to Auckland hospital and mum is all set up in hospital so she can monitor overnight, and have a ct scan…

Mum is fighting with everything she has.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
