UPDATE: 16 OCTOBER 2015
Habitat for Humanity NZ have advised that they have had to cancel the Nepal house build project due to civil unrest following the announcement of Nepal’s new constitution. Full details at: http://www.habitat.org/cwp/2015/
This is clearly very disappointing for everyone involved - most of all for the families that we were due to help. Habitat for Humanity have informed us that these families are being served through local construction resources.
Once the local issues have settled down, there will most likely be an opportunity for a similar project in Nepal in 2016. If I can make this work in with my other commitments, I will be very keen to participate using the donations so kindly provided by everyone. If I cannot make it work, I will contribute the funds to the Nepal project.
For those that have donated: if, for any reason, you would like your donation returned, then please do not hesitate to contact me and I will arrange this absolutely no problems at all.
I must add that Habitat for Humanity have been superb with their regular informative communications, and have provided us with a variety of options (building projects in other countries, etc). I am impressed by their organisation.
Thanks again for the generous support. I will keep you updated with developments.
Cheers, Marty.

ORIGINAL POST: 5 September 2015
According to the Nepali government, about 10 million people in Nepal (over 40% of the population) live in inadequate housing. The need for housing in Nepal is now greater after the devastating earthquakes in early 2015.
Habitat for Humanity New Zealand is arranging to send 200 volunteers to Chitwan, Nepal from 1 to 6 November 2015 to help build 100 earthquake-resilient homes for Nepali families. I will be one of 1000 volunteers from all around the world who will join this building project.
I travelled through Nepal in the 1990's and had the most incredible experience - mostly due to the welcoming nature of the humble people, but also their amazing environment. I feel fortunate to be in a position to donate a week of effort to this important project.
The cost to participate is $6200. This includes a contribution to the ongoing work of Habitat for Humanity in Nepal of $3670, which I am hoping to raise with your help.
If you'd like more information, see:

Your donation would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Marty.
I am volunteering to spend a week in Nepal on a project organised by Habitat for Humanity to build 100 houses for Nepali families.
