Highway 3 to Albuquerque, 130km fundraising hīkoi from Waiokura marae to Tini Waitara marae.
Taranaki
On the 21st-23rd of March 2025 we will be doing a 130km walk fundraiser in order to get us to an international conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We have been accepted to present at the INIKHD RIEL Conference which underpins Indigenous Ecologies of Love. Kayla is a Master’s student at the Universiry of Waikato and Jasmine is a PhD student at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi.
For this fundraiser we will be walking from Kayla’s marae in Taranaki to Jasmine’s marae in Turakina which equates to 130km (a distnace we hope to complete in 2 days) we have chosen to use walking as the foundation of this journey as it truly reflects what we are both setting out to achieve within our communities through moving into a space of intergenerational healing and guiding our people to a place of thrivance. We hope to bring our learnings from this conference home with us to share with our people.
The funds that we raise will go towards flights, accomodation and registrations fees for our trip. We would like to thank you for walking beside us on this journey.
All funds will be paid into a verrified bank accoun held by both Kayla and Jasmine.
E mihi nui ana,
Kayla and Jazzy 😊

Kia ora e te iwi!! Nau mai ki tō māua nei whārangi “Highway 3 to Albuquerque”. You’re probably wondering what this page and kaupapa is all about 👀…
We have each individually been accepted to present at the INIKHD Conference “Reclaiming Indigenous Ecologies of Love” held in Albuquerque New Mexico in late April of this year. Kayla is presenting on her Master’s work and Jazzy her PhD work. We wanted a fundraiser that would bring both of our kaupapa, whakapapa and journeys together. We didn’t want to do anything too hard for the fundraiser so we decided to do something absolutely ridiculous instead. A hīkoi from Kayla’s marae Waiokura in South Taranaki to Jazzy’s marae Tini Waitara in Turakina would bring together the stories of our tūpuna and reflect what we are both trying to achieve in our communities by walking and moving into a future of thrivance for our people.
We have created this page as a way to raise funds through our Give a Little Page which is linked in our bio but we also wanted to use this as an educational platform and to bring you all along on the journey. We will have so many learnings that we want to share with you all and we wouldn’t be able to do this without you guys! We are so grateful for the support already and it has only been a couple of days! ❤️
Keep your eyes peeled for our livestream Q+A later this week and ask your pātai in the question box on our story!
Hei ākuanei e te iwi! 😍
