Hip Surgery for Maca

Meet Maca, my 2-year-old rescue cat who lives for the outdoors, climbing, exploring, and prowling the neighbourhood. That's his whole personality.

About six weeks ago he started limping. We took him to the vet, tried pain relief and anti-inflammatories, and hoped it would resolve on its own. It didn't. Recent x-rays showed why: both his hip joints are fractured, likely from a condition affecting young cats where the joint separates from the bone.

He needs surgery on both hips, a bilateral femoral head and neck ostectomy, to remove the damaged joint and stop the pain. Without it he'll stay in constant discomfort and won't heal on his own. The estimated cost is over $2,000, and we're waiting on a full quote from a specialist in Palmerston North.

I'm a university student living with my sister. We've already spent what we could trying to figure out what was wrong, and this surgery is beyond what we can cover alone.

Maca is still young and still trying to be his outdoor loving self despite the pain. Cats recover well from this surgery and can go on to live full, active lives, we just need help getting him there.
