To raise funds to purchase a second hand car after a guy crashed into me and gave false details.
Manawatu / Whanganui
I have always tried to help others and volunteer my time with various community groups and now find I need help myself after a hit and run incident.
I saved for a year to purchase a second hand car. I am 20 years old and have started a 2 year electrical engineering diploma in Palmerston North. At 7:45am on 8 May I was driving to my course when a guy sped out of a side street and T-Boned my car. I was spun 180 degrees but he only had a crack on his bumper. We exchanged details. I thought my car could be repaired and I would soon be fine. A tow truck came and took my car away to be assessed. I only have 3rd party insurance so was relying on the other driver to pay. I soon found out that the axle was cracked so the car’s been written off. I only purchased it last year for $5,500.
It turns out the driver lied. His address is an empty section. The car is registered to someone else and they do not think the details match. I’ve been to the police but they say there’s not much chance of finding the driver. My insurance company said there is nothing they can do as they can’t trace the owner or the driver.
It cost me $517 for the tow company, which leaves me $50 in the bank. I have no more savings, no job and no car. I’ve been applying for several part time weekend jobs but now have no car to get to one.
Funds will go towards a reliable second hand car so I can get to and from my course again. Any money will help me save for another car.
