Our mission is to create an inclusive, safe playground for all families in our community.
Auckland
Hollie's Bucket Swing project is fundraising for a specially-designed bucket swing to be installed at one of our local playgrounds, for physically and/or mentally disabled children with challenges, who can’t use the traditional swings safely.
The swing is a full body support swing shaped like a bucket seat, with a tall back and a safety harness, which helps people sit up in the seat and, can fit children and adults! Their purpose is to keep kids safe, when other swings can’t.
There are currently no swings of this style in the area with the closest located in Howick. This means Hollie and kids like her, can't enjoy what other kids and families take for granted "a day out at their local park to play".
Why will this cost so much?
We have simply AMAZING individuals and businesses in the community that have already offered to contribute their time, materials and resources for free to help cut costs however, any project like this is subject to council regulations so our job is to raise the funds, and they will do the rest! We're also seeking funding from local businesses and grants from charitable trusts.
Please help to support Hollie's project.
Thank you
We are a group of community members that have banded together to help and support Hollie and her mum Heather, with their fundraising.
All money raised will go towards funding the purchase of the bucket swing, frame, installation costs and, any fencing and ground requirements.
Any surplus funds raised will be used towards additional, inclusive playground equipment.
Update 28 November 2023
The swing project has proven difficult on many fronts. The council at the start seemed to be very helpful and wanting to be involved but in reality this was not the case. Heather was told she had to get an architect to get drawings of what she wanted and would need to pay for this herself.
Unfortunately, the funds raised so far are no where near enough for Hollie’s swing.
Given the current circumstances, if we are not able to proceed with the project, funds will be used to buy a spring free trampoline for Hollie and a sun shade for it as Hollie over heats easily and this brings on her seizures so to be able to play on the tramp or lie and play with sensory toys this would be great without the sun bearing down on her.
Just allowing Hollie the freedom to be able to go outside where she is safe even though it would only be in our back garden would be amazing where she can join in with her other siblings would be amazing.
Keeping in mind that funds were donated to support the Bucket Swing Project, if you'd like to request a refund of your donation, please get in touch with Givealittle at helpdesk@givealittle.co.nz by December 7th.
We just wish we had an army of people to help and the right people to help. Doing it solo with a special needs child that needs 24/7 care really is an impossible job.
Thanks so much!
Thanks so much. YES! Wouldn't that be great to have these swings stalled wherever possible.
Many thanks for your donation.
