Last October Hollie was diagnosed with Stage 4 Triple Negative Beast Cancer. Desperate help is needed for her unfunded treatment
Northland
On the 29th February this year Hollie McIntyre was experiencing the most exciting day of her life, proposing to the love of her life in front of friends family and hundreds of racegoers at Ellerslie Racecourse. To see her you’d have no idea that just 5 months before she’d had the devastating diagnosis of Stage 4 Triple Negative Breast Cancer and had been undergoing gruelling treatment.
Today, brave and amazing Hollie is still fighting, not just the symptoms of this disease but the financial reality of ongoing treatment.
Her current treatment, Erubulin, is just under $5,000 per dose. It’s funded in Australia, but devastatingly not in New Zealand. Travel to Australia to undergo this treatment isn’t possible because of Coronavirus.
Another new miracle drug in the USA that has the potential to have incredible results has just been approved, but its over $110,000 a month. Early trials of it show incredible results - response rates of up to 33%, even in women, who, like Hollie have undergone lots of treatment.
It’ll cost $1 million for the entire treatment. Access to this drug could make a remarkable difference to Hollies life.
Aside from all the stress and side effects of the cancer and the treatment Hollie has also been fighting ACC to get her claim accepted. After appearing in the New Zealand Herald she got her claim accepted but a loophole in the system means ACC won’t pay for her treatment. Not being a registered drug in New Zealand there is no funding.
Just recently ACC have started small weekly payments but nowhere near enough to cover any medical expenses.
Hollie is one in a million, hugely courageous and inspirational, to be with her you’d have absolutely no idea of her intense fight not just with breast cancer but also financially. She’s so bubbly, fun, always smiling and incredibly brave and her determination is just incredible.
At this moment Hollie and Andrew (her incredible Fiancé) should be planning the most important day of their lives, yet they are navigating the devastating impact of terminal breast cancer along with the intense financial pressure from day to day. Every donation to this page is hugely hugely appreciated. Please give absolutely anything you can spare and we thank you for every single dollar received, making a huge difference to a beautiful young couples lives.

A year on.. 31 October 2020
First of all a HUGE thank you to everyone who has kindly donated 💕 This October marks a full year since Hollies devastating diagnosis. Here’s a rundown of the year past and some of the amazing highs there have been....
She’s had 4 diffrent Chemotherapy treatments....countless Vitamin C Infusions. Remarkably she’s only had one hospital stay...which is utterly incredible! She had Sepsis, then needed to isolate for two weeks. She also underwent 4 week’s radiation treatment...followed by two months of burning and blistering. Lots and lots of drugs and lots of lots of appointments....
However...she got engaged to her soul mate...all in front of hundreds of Race goers at Ellerslie Racecourse. She was treated like a celebrity and Hollie and Andrew certainly became celebrities for the day. She attended so so many different fundraisers her amazing community and further afield held for her...beaming and vibrant at every single one. There are so many to mention and count but every single one has been worth it’s weight in gold not just for the invaluable fundraising but also the amazing positive energy and show of absolute love it has given for Hollie.
Shes welcomed a new Nephew into the world and spent lockdown with close family and spent lots and lots of quality time with family and friends.
Behind these smiles and this show of absolute courage she’s also worked so hard to push for funding for better treatments and stays so strong and positive always with a smile.
A huge thank you to everyone who has given, held events and shared Hollies story as she fights on in a way only Hollie does - which is incredibly - Positive, brave, courageous and strong. Please continue to share as Hollies fight continues, it means so much!
