Help us build a dry and elevated home for the Rakai family

We want to help the Rakai family, who live in Lovu, Lautoka, Fiji. Their home is under constant treat of flooding, due to climate changes and lack of funds to complete the construction of an elevated home. Last New Year's day (Jan2023) this family's home was in knee high water damaging their furniture and personal belongings. This occurs at least once a year. Their home runs alongside a tidal stream, so when heavy rains arrive and the tide is high, they prepare for the worse...a completely flooded home. This family have lived in this home for over 30 years, but have seen the changes in water levels and cyclone intensities increasing. The foundations and structure of their home are deteriorating as each flood occurs.

The family often have to evacuate their elderly mother, Tai Mere and other women to another family members home in Lautoka. The men stay at the home to ensure they all have a home to return to. This is an extremely distressing time for the entire family.
