Our Thorndon chooks need a new weatherproof house and enclosure.
Wellington
Betty, Ruby and Maggie are chickens who live at Thorndon School. They really like to interact with the children and can often be found having conversations with them when they walk by. They love to eat left over lunch items and explore the grounds.
Their coop and chicken run need renovating and our Chicken Carers ( Amie, Kate, Aisling, Lua, Charlotte, Eliza, Hazel and Cyrus) are working with a Neighbourhood Engineer, Callum, to help redesign and build the chickens a new home. They have big ideas and plans but need to find the funds to be able to make the changes they want.
Our chickens would like a warm and dry place to live with a lot less mud, more perches and interesting things to do when the children are not around to amuse them.
I am involved as the teacher who supports the Chicken Carers at Thorndon School to look after the welfare of our chickens. The chicken carers are Year 5 and 6 students at Thorndon School.

Funds raised will be used to:
Buy a kit-set chicken coop to house the chickens and store their food and straw.
Build a boardwalk inside the run to keep shoes clean and mud free.
Replace the wire netting around the run
Add kick boards around the bottom of the run to protect the wire netting
.
Buy a grandpa's chicken feeder to protect their food from getting wet and pests (sparrows).
Construct a drainage system to stop the mud
