Raising funds for Reel Recovery, as legacy for the late treasurer, Doug Snell, mentor and friend to so many in the fly fishing world.
Nationwide
Doug Snell was the past president of AFAC, a member of NZFFC, and the Treasurer of Reel Recovery, the charity that supports men with cancer to engage fully with the outdoors, learn something new, experience camaraderie, and find some joy and relief from their cancer fight. Reel Recovery was extremely important to Doug. His passion and joy for every part of flyfishing was shared, with generosity, mentorship, care, compassion, humour and great heart. Doug made life better for so many, when options were few and the future bleak, re-engaging them with nature, with new skills, and delivering the humanity of hope. Hope and experience and fishing.
We will raise funds here, both as a memorial to Doug, but also to ensure that his great work with Reel recovery is supported and valued for years to come.
Please support the cause in any way you can.
Doug was our loved and respected Past President of AFAC, a mentor, leader and teacher, and a generous warm hearted man, who deserved a longer life. We aim to honour him and his work, especially with Reel Recovery.
The money will ensure men with cancer experience life altering camaraderie and joy in the great outdoors. Reel recovery supplies everything needed to give these men hope, joy and a welcome taste of something other than the grind of ongoing treatment.
Going well 18 August 2025
Our endeavour to raise funds in support of Dougs charity as a tribute to the man himself is progressing well. Thank you to those who have helped out, it means a great deal to the organisation, and is the pest possible way for us to remember our friend and companion. We know that times are hard for so many right now so dont feel it has to be a big thing, every river is made of droplets. I received a note from Michele, who informed me that Doug's dear labrador girl passed the night he did, faithful old girl, bless them both.
