It is with a broken heart I share this news that Rakau a true warrior, the most courageous and strongest young man I have ever known left us earthside on Tuesday 7th December 2021. On behalf of Rakau and the family we want to express our deepest gratitude for all the support, well wishes and messages of hope during his battle. We are absolutely devastated and our hearts especially go out to his amazing mum Holly and his wonderful partner Paige. I'd also like to mention his Nan, these 3 strong women spent everyday and night / 5 weeks with Rakau in Hospice Whangarei. A big thank you to the supportive team at Hospice. Harley, Rakau's pop passed away 6 weeks before Rakau. Our dad, Rakau's pop spent so much time in Auckland supporting Rakau and I want thank Pop for going ahead of Rakau to help him and wrap his arms around our young man. Travel well Rakau Moe mai ra, we love you and miss you forever.

Kia ora everyone, apologies for the delay in updating you all. It has been a tough few weeks for everyone with Covid and lockdown. I hope you are all doing well. Rakau is doing pretty good. We are so blessed and grateful he is still with us. His hair has grown back and with the side effects of the drugs and steroids he's currently taking, has put on some weight. A couple of months ago, thankfully before lockdown, Rakau got to experience a couple of his wishes. With the support and love from his family, we managed to book a trip to Queenstown for him, his mum Holly and partner Paige. What an incredible experience it was for them. A helicopter ride up the mountains, the shot over jet boat ride and Onsen Spas just to name a few. A few days after their trip to Queenstown, we received a call from Race4life @race4life, what an incredible organisation and group of people who make wishes come true for patients like Rakau. They had planned a weekend for him to go to the All Blacks vs Aussie game, where he met some of the All Blacks. He was so happy. He stayed at the SkyCity hotel, cruised around in a mustang and dined in restaurants. We were so glad to see him so happy and not think about his cancer for a few days. Feel like a teenager again. Despite these good times, Rakau recently had some bad seizures with a stint in Middlemore hospital, which has really knocked him. His strength and balance has taken a hit. With Auckland at level 3 it has been a nightmare not being able to get him to his Ozone treatments and Vitamin C infusions which give him strength and energy so he's been really struggling to box on in particular with his clean eating. He is taking a lot of supplements, CBD products and as you know he is just a real warrior. I'll do my best to provide another update shortly. Thank you all much, Rakau and the whanau really appreciate your generosity through this page. We are so blessed to have people and organisations out there willing to help and support him. Thank you so much again. Check out his TV appearance too, on the project and via race4life. https://fb.watch/8t4RW0EI3g/

  • Rakau’s update

Kia ora an update for everyone, firstly thank you so much for your support. Rakau and the family are just blown away and so thankful they can't believe it. This has really given Rakau and the family a boost knowing there is so much support for him. Thank you again, so appreciated.

The official meeting took place on Friday last week where a medical team of 5 told Rakau he had 4 to 12 weeks and explained the discharge plans etc. It was a horrible meeting. To his credit he did not flinch, was solid as a Rock, so proud of him! Kia Kaha.

Last week a very generous person kindly leant his Maseraiti so that Rakau could enjoy being taken for a drive around Orewa and Silverdale where one of his treaments took place. It was a surprise. When we picked him up, the smile on his face was priceless!. (Of course he wanted to drive!) Thank you so much Chris. A quick trip to the movies on the weekend to watch Fast 9 was pretty cool too.

He has been fully discharged and is now home and is going great.

We have seen a 2nd specialist for a 2nd opinion and unfortunately cannot help. Brisbane is not available for this condition and the drugs we have been applying for are not cures. We are now currently communicating with specialists in Singapore also.

However, his strength is incredible, he still gets tired quickly throughout the day but he's sticking to his Alkaline food program and getting to appointments such as his Vitamin C infusions, Reflexiology, Herbalist / Naturopaths and others.

The money raised from everyone is being used for these treatments and without this support this would not be possible as a lot of these treatments are twice weekly and not possible for him monetary wise. We cannot thank you enough.

Through research and meeting very special and kind giving people who have themselves shared their experiences of winning their own terminal cancers have given us so much hope! Which is critical for Rakau and the whanau's journey. Thank you Tanya. The whanau have put all this information together and have decided to go down a natural journey. The beautiful people sharing their positive successes and research we have found gives Rakau and us strength. Rakau can be visited also.

Again we thank you so much for your support! and please continue to share Rakau's story he is a true warrior and refuses to give up no matter what the odds.

I came across this recently when I was searching for natural therapies, it may be something to look into if you haven't already. I wish you all the best on this difficult journey. https://goodmagazine.co.nz/5-minutes-with-maori-healer-tracey-leigh-te-paa/
