Note from Siobahn - Hi everyone

It's been a busy few weeks with medical appointments, so that's reassuring.

I have had regular district nurse visits each week, as well as personal cares at home.

Today (30/08/18) I had a CT scan at Auckland Hospital and get the results back in 5-10 business days.

Tomorrow I am seeing the plastic surgeon in Manukau for a follow up appointment.

I hope to have a better idea of when the next surgery is. It totally depends on the rate of healing.

Next week I see the oncology team at Greenlane to discuss treatment options.

The biggest financial relief of late has been being able to get my car safe to drive...peace of mind.

Thank you all for your care and interest in my family and I.

I hope you all have a blessed week.

    Take care

    Siobahn and family xx"

  • Second Update on Siobahn's Breast Cancer Fight

Siobahn, Quentin, Dylan & Leiana again wish to express their deepest gratitude and thanks to everyone who has donated and sent through their love, kind thoughts, prayers and healing wishes.

Last Wednesday 25th July 2018, Siobahn was discharged from Middlemore Hospital and returned home, eagerly awaited by her three teenage children.

This morning Siobahn received the fantastic news that it appears as though the cancer has not spread at this stage and has so far been contained. We are thrilled by this positive update.

Siobahn is currently however at a very high risk of infection and must get as much rest as she can over the next few weeks to optimise her recovery.

The last several days have brought emotional and physical ups and downs for the Hope family. With a long road of recovery ahead, further upcoming surgeries and ongoing limited financial capacity Siobahn's journey is far from over.

Through Siobahn's group of family friends, we will be delivering healthy, tasty meals this week for Siobahn, Quentin, Dylan and Leiana to help relieve the stress over them during this time.

It has been concluded that it will be in Siobahn's best interest to have the GiveALittle Funds that have been so generously donated, paid directly to Siobahn's close friend, Cathie Bryant on behalf of Siobahn. Thus, the Payee will now change from Siobahn to Cathie, through the GiveALittle Team.

This decision was made yesterday by Siobahn, her close friends and myself so that Siobahn doesn't have the worry about keeping track of the funds and household payments whilst she is still in recovery.

All funds raised for Siobahn will go towards her post-operation therapy, living expenses for Siobahn and her three children plus any outstanding bills she may incur during her road to recovery from her Breast Surgery and Breast Reconstruction.

We look forward to sharing with you soon the wonderful ways the funds will be used for Siobahn, Quentin Dylan and Leiana, plus further updates on Siobahn's health and recovery journey.

    To be continued...

  • First Update on Siobahn's Breast Cancer Fight

      22 July 2018

Siobahn, Quentin, Dylan & Leiana wish to express their deepest gratitude and thanks to everyone who has donated and sent through their love, kind thoughts, prayers and healing wishes over the last week.

Last Tuesday 17-07-18, Siobahn underwent a skin-preserving mastectomy, followed by immediate reconstruction, at Middlemore Hospital, Auckland, NZ.

Siobahn had a Latissimus Dorsi Flap Reconstruction and a tissue expander, as well. This however, requires further operations. Surgeons moved tissue (skin, fat and muscle) from Siobahn's back, still attached, fed it thorough the arm pit, around to her chest. Her back is now her boob!

The reconstruction option that Siobahn choose was best suited to her situation, considering many health factors.

The surgery took 7 hours to perform and the surgeons were pleased with the outcome.

During the first night in the ward, Siobahn was losing a lot of blood and nearly had to return to theatre. Siobahn couldn't face another operation so soon. Her medical team checked the output every half hour that night and after several hours of observation they were satisfied with the levels as they were.

    From Siobahn -

"I have had an amazing team doing their best to keep me safe and well-cared for in hospital. I can't sing their praises enough. What superstars! My kids have been amazing too, coming in each day to see me. They fill my heart with love. I am blessed.

Lots of love to everyone from my hospital bed. Next phase will be going home..."

Siobahn is due to be discharged from Hospital tomorrow (23-07-18) and is looking forward to returning home to her family.

At this stage we await confirmation the sentinel node biopsy is clear and that the cancer hasn't spread to the rest of her body.

Whilst we are thrilled her surgery has gone well, Siobahn's journey is far from over. With a long road of recovery ahead, and ongoing limited financial capacity we still graciously ask you to please consider donating and to please share this GiveALittle page with your family and friends.

    To be continued...
