A fundraiser for a Hydrotherapy Pool at The Hornby Centre in Hornby, Christchurch

Hornby, Christchurch

The Christchurch City Council have approved and are working towards a swimming pool and library complex (The Hornby Centre) in Hornby. Plans have been finalised and building is now underway. This project will provide a massive benefit to the local and wider community. Unfortunately, funding was not available for the hydrotherapy pool component to this project however it was approved for this overall project that if additional funding become available or efficiencies were identified then desirable components (e.g. hydrotherapy) would be prioritised and included within the scope of the project. We have ensured that council have included a placeholder for hydrotherapy in all plans (to future proof for this critical aspect).

Where available, hydrotherapy pools play a large part for communities spanning from rehabilitation, aged, sports, and general illness (e.g. arthritis, multiple sclerosis). To deliver on this (additional) component for the community, Hornby Rotary Club in conjunct with Greater Hornby Residents Association - are leading the initiative for community fundraising. The shortfall required is $1.4m.

Update 20.20.23

We are almost there! We have raised $1.17 million of the $1.4 million needed. And the pool is currently under construction!

Fundraising will start in February 2022 and is focused on engagement with local businesses, schools, families, and wider community. We thank you for your support. Please visit our website to follow our (your) progress and sign up for the newsletter. We will keep you up to date with fundraising as well as various fundraising initiatives and project timelines.

Why Hornby for a Hydrotherapy Pool?

Residents currently wanting this facility have to travel to another district in Rolleston or to Burwood in the East of the City, the only option is Taiora at QEII. There is currently an ongoing and increasing need for warm pools, particularly on the west side of Christchurch where there is no provision of warm water pools.

Thanks for supporting the Matatiki: Hornby Centre Hydrotherapy Pool! Annual Tax Receipt Information.  12 June 2024

Thanks for your awesome generosity! Donating is a wonderful thing to do and can make you feel great. But getting 33% of your donation back against your taxes can feel pretty great too!

We know that it can be a real hassle to collect all your receipts and lodge them individually with IRD, so we've made it simple to get copies of all your eligible receipts from Givealittle in an annual PDF that can be uploaded to IRD with one grand total.

A lot of pages on Givealittle are for individuals or organisations that aren't tax eligible, so it's possible not every donation you make on Givealittle will qualify for a tax credit (we have a message on the donation screen to let you know when your donation will be eligible).

You can claim 33.33% of your donation back as a tax credit if:

You donated to an organisation that is registered with IRD as a qualifying entity

You donated more than $5

You donated within the last 4 tax years
