A fundraiser for a Hydrotherapy Pool at The Hornby Centre in Hornby, Christchurch
Hornby, Christchurch
The Christchurch City Council have approved and are working towards a swimming pool and library complex (The Hornby Centre) in Hornby. Plans have been finalised and building is now underway. This project will provide a massive benefit to the local and wider community. Unfortunately, funding was not available for the hydrotherapy pool component to this project however it was approved for this overall project that if additional funding become available or efficiencies were identified then desirable components (e.g. hydrotherapy) would be prioritised and included within the scope of the project. We have ensured that council have included a placeholder for hydrotherapy in all plans (to future proof for this critical aspect).
Where available, hydrotherapy pools play a large part for communities spanning from rehabilitation, aged, sports, and general illness (e.g. arthritis, multiple sclerosis). To deliver on this (additional) component for the community, Hornby Rotary Club in conjunct with Greater Hornby Residents Association - are leading the initiative for community fundraising. The shortfall required is $1.4m.
Update 20.20.23
We are almost there! We have raised $1.17 million of the $1.4 million needed. And the pool is currently under construction!
Fundraising will start in February 2022 and is focused on engagement with local businesses, schools, families, and wider community. We thank you for your support. Why Hornby for a Hydrotherapy Pool?
Residents currently wanting this facility have to travel to another district in Rolleston or to Burwood in the East of the City, the only option is Taiora at QEII. There is currently an ongoing and increasing need for warm pools, particularly on the west side of Christchurch where there is no provision of warm water pools.
Rotary Club of Hornby (Charitable Trust) is your local Rotary Club Based in Hornby. We have an active team of approx. 35 volunteers who promote Rotary activities and raise funds to support our local community and worthy causes (locally and further afield).
The Hydrotherapy Pool Component has part funding from the Christchurch City Council. Currently there is a shortfall of $1.4m. For this Hydrotherapy Pool to go ahead we need the fund the balance. Let's get to work! It's a great community asset!
The Hydrotherapy Pool at the Matatiki: Hornby Centre is nearing completion! 31 January 2024
Thank you to all who have contributed to making the Hydrotherapy Pool a reality. We are getting closer to the opening and the complex is looking great, but more funds are needed to complete the task. With all the funding avenues we have used there is still around $200k of the $1.4 million needed to be raised. Please tell your friends and whanau because they still have time to help us! Donate directly via our 'givealittle' page or head over to our 'Buy a bubble' website - buyabubble.nz .
