Help us to empower teachers to raise the scientific literacy of students in your region

$110 of $3,000 goal
Given by 4 generous donors in over a year

A small community based science charity wanting to make a big difference by increasing the scientific literacy of our regions students.

Waikato

Having started in Term 3 of 2018, we are just about to celebrate our 7th birthday! We have grown from servicing 5 schools and delivering 25 kits in 2018 to servicing 47 schools and 3 'out of classroom' groups and delivering 854 kits in 2024! On average we reach over 2,500 students per fortnight.

Our unique educational model is designed to bring practical hands-on science into Year 0 to 8 classrooms. Each fortnight we deliver science resource kits that includes everything an educator needs (bilingual teacher manual, student activity cards, and all equipment and consumables) to teach a science concept to a group of 30+ students in a fun and engaging way. Each kit contains at least 5 activities covering a wide range of topics including climate change, nanotechnology, ocean ecosystems, microbes and bacteria etc.

It is important that the next generation grow up scientifically literate to be able to make informed decisions for themselves, their family and their community. While New Zealand’s future prosperity relies on our ability to embrace scientific discoveries and advanced technologies.

Primary and intermediate aged children, regardless of their geographical location or teaching environment, should have the opportunity to explore, experiment and investigate science in all its forms. Young people deserve to be encouraged in their natural curiosity and be taught how to think, question and problem solve as they discover.

About us

We provide comprehensive, high quality hands on bi-lingual science resources to Primary & Intermediate schools in the Hamilton and Central Waikato regions with the purpose of empowering teachers to increase their students scientific literacy.

Use of funds

Every $3,000 dollars will be used to sponsor a bi-lingual science kit. This allows us to maintain our kits to the high standard that our branch has become to be known for and purchase new and extra copies of kits as they become available.
