Help Nicko drive his car independently!
Southland
We have created this donation page to raise funds for an electric arm and other modifications to be installed in Nicko's car allowing him to independently transfer in and out and do missions on his own!
Nickos Story...
Nicko was born an brought up in Invercargill. After his schooling years he went on to finish his building apprenticeship. He then thought he would give the Australian life style a go. Moving to a small mining town in Western Australia called Karratha he soon had settled in calling that place home. That was all going to change one New Years Eve...
Nicko and his family spent a beautiful time in Sydney for Christmas and as any young 25 year old would, he was off with his mate to a party on New Years Eve where things went terribly wrong. He was involved in an accident that had left Nicko being run over twice.
The result of this horrific advent left him a tetraplegic at the age of 25.
Prior to this accident Nicko was a very active, giving & hardworking guy. This hasn't changed. He offers to speak to schools and groups about staying positive, having resilience, helping with mental health and letting kids know that it’s ok to be themselves with social media being a huge part in their lives.
To live his best life, Nicko also wants to be outdoors as much as possible. With the right equipment, he can get up the mountain to ski, kayak, bike or even paraglide. All of these activities help keep his mental health in a good place allowing him to live life as normal as possible.
Most NZ citizens in this position would be covered and helped out financially by ACC.
ACC does not cover costs for Nickos disability. He has to fund for any special equipment, modifications, home adaptions and some medication he needs every day on his own which is extremely difficult not for just him but also for family and friends. This is because the accident happened in Australia.
Any donation towards the arm for his car would be greatly appreciated so Nicko can get in his car when he likes and live the best life he can and help others. It will make the world of difference to his life to have the freedom most of us all have!
