Celebrate Culture: Taranaki Japan Day 2026

Date: 21 March 2026 (11am-4pm)

The inaugural Taranaki Japan Day is a vibrant community celebration of Japanese culture, tradition, and friendship. From the rhythmic thunder of Taiko drumming to the delicate art of the tea ceremony, this event brings an immersive experience to the heart of Taranaki.

This is a completely community-led event, and we want to make it accessible to everyone by keeping entry fees low. However, to host an event on this scale, we need a little extra support.

If this year is a success, our goal is to make Taranaki Japan Day a biennial celebration, returning every two years. Your generous donations will go directly toward the costs of bringing this festival to life, including:

Performers & Crew: Bringing traditional performers from out of town and providing crew uniforms.

Cultural Workshops: Supplies for calligraphy, origami, and children’s activities so everyone can participate.

Infrastructure: Sound equipment, staging, and furniture hire to ensure a professional and safe environment.
