2021 wasn't the greatest year for many, but what a year for Hunter Donghi! Completing his apprenticeship at Fulton Hogan and then to top it off being awarded the Connexis Apprentice of the year for Civil Construction.

What a life ahead of him, only to be diagnosed days before Christmas with Stage 4 Liver Cancer. All very confronting for a 20 year old as this was never meant to be part of his story.

Hunter has a strong work ethic and would show up to rugby practice to work hard and have good banter with the boys. Saturday, game day he would perform at his finest and at the end of teh game would enjoy a beer or two with his team mates and with the opposition who he had made close friends with over the year off the field.

Ad lastly, the largest chapter in Hunter's life, his family. His Mum Kylee, Step-Father Bryan, brothers Logan, Jordan and twin brother Boston. His father Paul sadly died at the young age of 35 to cancer.

His whanau helped mould Hunter into the kind, warm and witty young man he is today and his mates keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

From here Hunter needs your support! Medication that Hunter needed yesterday to help prolong his life is $70,000.

I have known Hunter since he was very young playing junior rugby against my son, who is the same age. Not the biggest player, but he had the biggest ticker on the field! His Mum Kylee is one of my very good friends.

Use of funds

Money will be spent on unfunded cancer medication pembrolizumab. to prolong Hunter's life.

Fundraising Update 18 January 2022

Saturday’s Fundraiser for Hunter exceeded all expectations. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, what a village/community that is behind this young man. The obscene target of $164,343.00 has been hit – thank you thank you thank you.

Last week Hunter had his first treatment and will be having treatment every three weeks moving forward.

FUNDRAISING UPDATES

Due to other golfing events on the day, and low team entries, the golf scheduled for this Sunday, 23rd January, has been cancelled at this stage. We will be getting in touch with teams that have entered and paid to arrange refunds.

Prizes and auction items that have been kindly donated that were being held for the Golfing event, are being held at Napier Tech Rugby Club. They will use these items during the season to have further raffles/fundraising for Hunter. We have updated our Thank You list again as items have flooded in. Again we apologise if we have missed anyone, but sincerely thanks to all that have contributed, big and small.

Again, the whānau thank you from the bottom of their hearts. You’ve done it – you’ve given Hunter the drug he needs in an astonishing two weeks! They are humbled by your support.
