A grieving young mum raising her one-year-old son alone after the sudden loss of her husband to cancer, support to provide a stable future.

Remuera, Auckland

My name is Najie Lin. My husband Mark and I were married for 8 wonderful years. After years of waiting and praying, we were finally blessed with our baby boy, Benjamin, in May last year.

Mark worked hard as a full-time chef to support our little family. Just before his birthday, he visited the doctor and was sent for a blood test. The day after his birthday, he was admitted to hospital. We were devastated to learn he had esophagus cancer that had already spread to his lungs and liver.

Only 20 days later, Mark passed away.

It was so sudden and has deeply hurt our whole family. Mark's parents had already passed away years, and there is little support from his extended family. My own parents are here with me on a visitor visa, doing all they can to help care for Benjamin and support me emotionally.

We had no insurance, and now I’m left with a large mortgage and raising our one-year-old alone. I work in admin, but I've had to reduce my hours so I can properly care for Benjamin, who still needs me so much.

This has been the hardest time of my life — grieving, adjusting, and trying to stay strong for my son.

If you feel led to help, any support — no matter how small — will go toward our living costs and help give Benjamin the secure, loving home Mark wanted for him.

Thank you for reading our story and for your kindness during this painful time

Use of funds

The money will help cover our mortgage, daily living costs, and baby essentials so I can focus on caring for my one-year-old son and rebuilding our lives after the sudden loss of my husband.

Thank you so much!  26 May 2025

Dear Friends,

I want to sincerely thank each of you who has reached out with love, support, and generosity during this incredibly difficult time. Whether you gave financially, prayed for us, sent words of encouragement, or simply carried us in your heart—please know it has not gone unnoticed.

Losing Mark so suddenly has been deeply heartbreaking. The pain is still very raw, and navigating life without him is a daily challenge. I start to see a counselor last week. But through it all, God has been near—and you have been part of how He has shown His love and faithfulness to Benjamin and me.

Your support has been a real, practical expression of God’s love. I have been overwhelmed—in the best way—by the kindness and compassion you’ve poured out. You have truly been the hands and feet of Jesus to us, and I can’t thank you enough.

Benjamin just turned 1, and in him I see both the legacy of his father and the promise of God’s continued faithfulness. I’m doing my best to walk this new journey with hope, trusting that the same God who brought us this far will carry us through what lies ahead.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers—especially as I applied to extrsion of my mother's visitor visa. I know God hears and provides.

May the Lord richly bless you and your families for the way you have blessed ours. "The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you." (Numbers 6:24–25)

With deep love and gratitude

Rachel & Benjamin
