I AM GOING TO WORLD ATHLETICS U20 CHAMPS

Hi, I am Marielle Venida. Ever since I was young, sports have been a huge part of my life as it was something I was always passionate about. When I was 11 years old, I started athletics with Pakuranga and always enjoyed sprinting. I have loved every single second of it especially the hardships as it has led me where I am now.

Last season had been great as I was able to achieve the NZ Secondary Schools (NZSS) Champs and National U20 title for 100m. In addition, I had represented NZ at Oceania Champs last June in Fiji and achieved 5th in the Senior Women whilst being the youngest in the finals. Not only that, but I am also fortunate to have been selected to compete at World Athletics U20 Champs in Peru in August for both 100m & 200m sprint.

Ever since the World Under 20 Champs in 2022, my goal has been to compete at this competition. Considering I tore my hamstring during NZSS Champs last year and was out for few months to recover. I thought that my season was over, and I was unable to obtain the qualifying standard. Even though this injury was a setback, it did not stop me from reaching my goal to qualify and be selected for NZ World team.

Given this opportunity has been an absolute blessing for me. However, the costs of this trip are going to be substantial as it is fully a self-funded trip. Considering the expenses from my previous trips such as the Australian Champs, Philippine Champs and Oceania’s, any support given will be much appreciated.
