We are raising money for an icon of the Transfiguration for the new chapel of the Fourviere Retreat Centre in Leithfield.
Canterbury
The Beatitudes Community (see www.beatitudes.nz) invite you to support the development of our beautiful retreat centre at Leithfield in North Canterbury, which can become a spiritual home away from home for you and those you care about. Our centre is named after Our Lady of Fourvière in Lyons, France, where many of the first missionaries to New Zealand were inspired and came from. (see www.fourviere.nz)
We welcome people from any walk of life and try to offer a haven of silence and beauty that allows one to leave a world lost in artificial connections in order to reconnect with the self, others and God. We, the Fourvière spiritual team share our gift of living in the presence of God with all visitors, so that each one may encounter God in the depths of their being and re-enter the world transformed and renewed.
We are building a new chapel to accomodate larger groups for day visits and to house our daily liturgy to which all are invited. Beauty is an important part of our charism, and through it the beholder is attracted toward a goodness that is beyond all beauty.
We are fundraising for a beautiful icon to be a central piece in our new chapel. It is a large icon of the Transfiguration (see our gallery) which sums up our charism to shine the light of Christ to all who encounter the community, through our shared life, love, liturgy and spiritual accompaniment on life's journey. A retreat is like an experience of Transfiguration where we are given eyes to see the Lord and ears to hear the Father's voice much more clearly in our lives.
We are a community who rely on providence and the work of our hands for our daily needs. For this kind of item, we need your help! This icon would help to show forth the beauty of heaven to all visitors, who can already experience the beauty of earth in the idyllic surroundings of the retreat centre.
The Beatitudes (see www.beatitudes.nz) are a Catholic community in New Zealand who are developing the Fourviere Retreat Centre, a beautiful place where anyone can come for much needed spiritual refreshment and renewal. (see www.fourviere.nz). We are raising money for a beautiful icon of the Transfiguration for the new chapel. Your help would be very much appreciated. God bless you all.
The Beatitudes Community was founded in France in 1973 by Ephraim and Josette Croissant, with another young couple, Jean-Marc and Mireille Hammel. We opened our first house in New Zealand in Christchurch in 1994. The Beatitudes ecclesial family is made up of priests and brothers, consecrated sisters and lay members. All the members of the Community share a common vocation of prayer, service and hospitality. This may be expressed through retreats, spiritual guidance, and fostering a contemplative spirit in the midst of daily life.
Our Spirituality is both Eucharistic and Marian, inspired by the Carmelite tradition of contemplative prayer and living out the spirit of the Beatitudes (ref. Matthew 5:3-12). We announce the Gospel through the liturgy, beauty, music, art, working with young people, works of compassion, spiritual formation and accompaniment, and missionary activity.
The funds will be used to purchase this beautiful icon from the Studio of John the Baptist in Auckland.
